XDA-Downloads.com is a Windows Mobile software site in development which focuses on freeware apps, themes and hacks developed on XDA-Developers.
The website, created by Yngve B. Nilsen from Norway is nearing release, and he has released some YouTube teaser videos showing the service in action.

LG’s Yearly Design The Future Commences

Every year, LGE has done a small contest to get some design ideas from their users and give them a little back. The contest which has always taken place around this time just was posted today to start soon, and anyone can do it. This event is an award based contest, that requires creativity, innovation, and Photoshop skills. The entries will get a chance at quite some great prices.
Here is the prize details from last year:
Over 400 entries were submitted to compete for over US$80,000 in prizes. Despite being limited to a single 1,024 x 3,072 pixel image per entry (to make things easier for the judges), the contestants excelled, producing a wide range of wonderfully attractive and innovative designs. To help the participants best present their ideas and to give them a guide to previous years’ entries, LG also supplied a downloadable sample entry and template on the competition homepage.
This contest can be something great for people like Livven, ElCondor, NAK, and other people that are well known for producing great concepts (see after the break):
VGA Windows Phone 7 Theme Collection

The VGA world might feel left out considering many of all development in the current Windows Phone world is geared towards WVGA devices like the HD2, Touch Pro2, and Diamond 2. Well do not worry my fine fellows… XDA member chriscsh has made a collection of themes that could give your phone the much anticipated Windows Phone 7 feeling, to keep you calm until you can purchase the real deal. The collection ranges from calculators to S2U2 , and TCPMP themes.
If you own a VGA device and are a little un edged about not having Microsoft’s latest… Then Download the themes that work for you, and get that pre Windows Phone 7 look.
HTC HD2 Android Video
The Android port for the HTC HD2 has been making news on just about ever site that reports on Windows Mobile news, now this video is here to give you a preview of what you would get if you tried it. The video illustrates the Herat loading, startup, and app loading process of this port. The port is a bit slow, and I say this with experience but that comes from it being one of the first releases.
The port has the new Mario wallpaper that was released on XDA earlier this week, and the main build is Android 2.1.
If you follow the developers, you will know that the development of Android for the HD2 is the fastest in history. Everyday he tweets about the newest updates for the port. Today one of the developers figured out the Wi-Fi connection. Yesterday they figured out all the sensors like G-sensor, ambient light sensor and proximity sensor, don’t forget the compass support. Tomorrow ill bet they will get 3G going, and in two weeks… They should have the GPS support handy.
I will try and get another statement from the developer and how this has all been going for them, and will post it here.
Comment below and tell us what you think of the HDEvo2, and hopefully you will give the port a try. Do not forget to follow the developer to stay up to date on their ports.
[GAME] Counting Sheep 0.1- Putting You To Sleep

If the fireworks around your house are not allowing you to sleep this July 4th, this new application could really help. Counting sheep’s has been known to get people to sleep, and so one XDA member by the name of RDT has made this little Windows Mobile application.
I am currently very tired, but cannot go to bed because my neighbors are all shooting firework in the air, so I am installing this application as I type, and will give it a go, and who know… Maybe I will be sleeping before you read this article.
Count your way to sleep now:
Ubuntu Released for the HD2… Ready… Set… GO!!

Many of you (like me) have been looking forward to a Linux for the HD2, well you got it. Just moments ago HTC_Linux tweeted the link to the first release of the Ubuntu port on the HD2. The port has been seen quite often from sites not just our own, and now you can try it out on your own.
I am already downloading the port already. The file is quite large, around 655MB and so the file takes a long time to download. Anyways enough talk from me, the change log is below and you can try it out.

HTC Sense Theme… For The 15 Year Old In You

The Windows Phone world is compiled with not only business men but teens that found some fashion desire in a device. Well for the teens in the world that read this site, here is a new look I am sure you would love on your device. The device theme is based on Buuf icons (Rurph), and with the icon outline of iReflect, and background by popdog54.
You can try the theme out, but before… watch this quick demo video:
Frequently asked questions:
Q: Is there an all-in-one cab for this theme?
A: At the moment there is no such cab. The reasons are first, we have made several versions for the same parts (like analogue/digital clocks, sliders), so people can choose the one they like and second, since we are still working on the theme, it is easier for us to deal with any bugs/problems having seperate cabs.
Q: Will there be an all-in-one cab?
A: Yes, once we comlete customising all parts.
Q: Do I need to install Cookie´s Home Tab first?
A: Apart from the analogue clocks/cht-addons, you don´t need, but it is adviceably to get the full advantage of your phone and the theme.
Q: Do I need to have Manila/Sence 2.5?
A: Yes
Q: How to install the parts?
A: Download a zip file to your pc, extract & copy a cab file to your phone´s internal memory or storage card, using a file explorer on your phone find & tap that cab file, install it on the device and then soft reset/restart your phone.
WeatherPanel Now “Looking Good” On HD2

Weather Panel is a fairly popular weather application for Windows Mobile devices and so making it look nice is important, and that is what this is for. This new look was discovered by an XDA member by the name Dunc001. The new look is a great way for people that would like more function out of Sense, but do not want to give up on the great look.
The poster had this to say about it:
Basically, fed up with the lack of information on the Sense weather tab I was looking for a way to click on the weather section of the Home tab and be taken to a much better weather app than the weather tab. Cookies Home Tab obviously offers the ability to select applications to shortcut to from the various Home Tab elements so the click through bit was already taken care of.
Then cam choosing the app, and I tried everything out there – gWeather, GPS Weather Radar, TouchWeather, etc but none of them provided everything I was looking for. Then I found a thread in XDA – http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=563150 – which looked very promising but which ultimately leeds to the creation of a new Sense tab, which obviously you can’t access by clicking on the weather panel in Home tab (without finding and editing Manila paths which I am far too thick to do!). However looking through the thread I managed to ascertain that the weather app element is a home screen plugin called WeatherPanel which turns out to have quite a following (duh!).
I then found another post in the thread which led me to Second Today as an alternative solution to ManilaTodayPage to create a home for WeatherPanel. You can then tag Second Today as the weather app in CHT Editor.
If you need an alternative to what Sense has… You can try the application.
XDA Market Place… Without the Market, More of a Place

It seems after many people have requested, a member has delivered the long awaited XDA application. XDA member davidgiga, has managed to get everything working almost perfect, and now allows you to upload applications, and download them all for free. That takes away on the sellers fee, buying fee, and anything that has fee in the same word.
Here is what the developer had to say:
- an appstore for everyone:
-Developers: Upload your own apps for everyone without paying anything. You can even upload apps only for one specific device.
-Users: Browse through apps for Windows Mobile or apps only for your device ( for example thinks like the flashlight app for the HD2)
and Rate, comment and download them.
Main features:
-Client app for Windows Mobile (WVGA version yet, works also on other devices)
-Webinterface for uploading and managing your apps
-Automatic update function for the client
I’m using my homeserver for this because it’s much more cheaper, so please don’t complain if the server gets slower![]()
If you want to register, upload apps ect browse to:
http://davidgiga.homeip.net/XDA_Market/
ToDo:
-Load icon faster
-Favorite list
-smaller fixes ect…
Bugs found:
-Error comes up when device is connected via active sync
-Email error (not required at the moment)
-Some Upload errors (think i have all now fixed)
You can read more on this over at XDA-developers
New Startup Looks Pretty Cool

I am a fan of any device that has a sick looking startup, so far Nexus One is on top, but this new startup is pretty high up also. The latest startup by XDA member gauravbaadshah, looks great, and embodies the four color of Windows, and either a Samsung, or HTC logo in the bottom. I cannot say much about it, but as you can see for your self, it looks pretty cool, and hopefully one day it will be animated.

New Shopping List App Now Updated
It seems that shopping list apps are now quickly becoming the most popular of them all, and this not so new apps is being updated. The application is very similar to the many other shopping list based apps, but it does one thing the others don’t (for the most part), keep track of the cost. The recent update brought some new features like a slower save time, and fixes for other non English countries.
Hello,
I just finished developing an application to manage the shopping list (called MiCarrito) and I’d like you to test it and provide me with some feedback.
My intention is to publish it on the marketplace (It will be free, of course), but before that I wanted to test it with hardcore users like you, guys.
With MiCarrito you can:
• Sort the shopping list by product categories to make shopping easier and faster.
• Create recipes defining lists of ingredients. Add all the ingredients in a recipe directly to the shopping list.
• Sort product categories in the list to fit the path you usually follow in the supermarket.
• Develop new products and categories, and re-assign products to a different category.
• For each product you can select the unit of measure and its price.
• For each product you can see the quantity that you bought of that same product during the last week and the last month.
• Synchronize your shopping list with your partner or a friend.
• Once in the supermarket, you can move the products from the shopping list to the shopping cart/trolley. Besides, you can set the current price and see the price it was the last time you bought it.
• As you fill the cart you will see the number of products in it and total amount of your shopping.
Localized in English, Spanish, Russian, Deutsch, Polish, Italian, Portuguese, Swedish, French, Hebrew, Danish, Chinese, Korean and Czech.
It has been tested in QVGA, VGA and WVGA resolutions.
Greetings and thanks for your help.
Note: Should any of you guys want it in your own language, find the resource file also available for download. Just let me know that you can help me with the translation and we’ll keep in touch.
v.1.31b
- Reduced time required for saving data (*very* important for installations in storage card)
v.1.3b
- Added multistore feature
v.1.241
- Added Czech localization (thanks to Libor).
- Fixed Chinese localization.
If this fits your need of a shopping buddy… download it, and comment below on your experience.
New HTC Messaging app fixes problems, ads hidden SMS feature
The HTC Messaging client is well know for being slow and buggy, such that many ROM cooks now intentionally leave it out when producing new Sense ROMs.
Those days may be over however, with a new build of the infamous software leaking out. Version 1.8 is not only faster and more stable, but also includes a feature I believe unique in a shipped OS – hidden SMS messages.
The so called Secure Box feature allows some SMS messages to be password protected, meaning some Lotharios will not have to hide their phone as much anymore
The cab for the new build can be downloaded in this XDA-Dev thread, but may not work in all cooked ROMs.
