Claimed hands-on with the Nokia 900 rumours 4.7 inch AMOLED screen (Update: Actually 4.3 inch screen)

Geektechblog.com is claiming to have had a hands-on with the Nokia 900 and have some very specific info to share.

They claim the device will have a massive 4.7 inch large 4.3 inch screen like the HTC Titan, but using AMOLED technology. The phone will apparently have ”a nicer camera to compliment the big screen”. The handset will apparently also retain the same appearance as the Lumia 800, but may have a gloss finish depending on feedback.

Geektechblog also notes the microSIM card will be removable using a pin like the iPhone rather than the current, rather complicated system, and that the microUSB slot will be uncovered.

They confirm the handset will run Tango, but claim NFC support will have to wait for Apollo.

No we never heard of Geektechblog, so we do not know how much credence to give this rumour.   What would our readers think of such a monster from Nokia? Let us know below.

Update: The Geek tech blog have updated their article to change the screen size to 4.3 inch, which is of course consistent with what was leaked earlier, and which makes all the rest more believable.

As long as we are throwing rumours out there, Nokia Gadgets claims to have a bit more info, saying the Nokia 900 has:

  • 16GB and 32GB versions
  • Front Facing camera
  • 4.3? Clear Black Display
  • 125.5 x 65.8 x 9 mm
  • 8mpx camera with single LED
  • LTE
  • Custom video calling app
  • Via MML

don’t care about this stuff, will it have FFC?!?!

      • http://www.facebook.com/Kakolukia Ivo Tsvetkov

        Really?

      • Anonymous

According to this post, it has. Another story if it’s true, but sounds a bit more legit than this.

        http://nokiagadgets.com/2011/12/10/rumor-some-new-info-about-lumia-900/

      • rsgx

You base your phone choice on whether it has an FFC or not?

        LOL

      • Anonymous

According to the post above, it does have FFC and this is what I am talking about! Now Nokia and Microsoft are getting their act together! This phone is going to have a much better chance against Fandroids and ifoneys!

    • http://twitter.com/Davidmuful David Bailey

Glossy? No thanks. The pin thing is kind of naff, and the 800 handles it very elegantly. Uncovered MicroUSB? All of these are backward steps, apart from screen size which is a matter of preference. Doesn’t seem legit.

      • Anonymous

The current swinging cover for the USB on the 800 is prone to breakage.  A flush USB port would be better.

4.7″ is too big for most.  Please make it manageable or come out with two high end models for the US.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Dong-heon-Phil-Shin/100000580326394 Dong-heon Phil Shin

      4.7″, good
      appearance of 800, good
      easy SIM change, good
      better camera, good
No NFC, I don’t care but not good

Well it doesn’t matter for me if it doesn’t come to Korea though…(we have only 710)

    • Per Elversson

i got the htc titan. 4,7 is not to big. but would it be over 4.9 then it would have been to big.

    • http://www.facebook.com/ellis.w.brown Ellis W. Brown Jr.

He posted the wrong screen size its 4.3 please update. So same as we heard before nothing new to see or hear people

    • aleclunsford

This would go right along with what the MSFT rep told me at the inner-circle event in Nashville. He said it was a 4.7 inch display and at&t would be getting it in march!

    • Anonymous

Wow. So far I have to make a compromise: 4.3 in AMOLED or 4.7 in SLCD.

      Not anymore.

      • Anonymous

        No

    • José Villaró

      Make it so…

      Lumia 800 like design
      4.3″ (it’s better than 4.7″ with WP’s resolution)
FFC (Not really used much but a must if it’s going to be the “premium” Nokia phone)
Better camera (This I would have to insist! Make it on par or better than the competition You already made it with the N8)
NFC (is needed to be future proof)Guaranty wireless tethering32 gb
      LTE

I will buy in a heartbeat

    • Anonymous

If this is all true – absolute win! I would consider switching carriers for a 4.3 nokia with ffc and 32gb.

    • http://twitter.com/dustbeta Dustin Schultz

Gloss?  Yuuuuck.  Why do consumer electronics makers insist on high gloss everything? Soooo ugly the second you touch it.

      • Anonymous

The good thing is this will most likely not end up glossy.  It is up to feedback, and most people absolutely love the Lumia 800′s Matt finish.

      • Anonymous

Plus it seems like the gloss would defeat the purpose of it being solid plastic.  Unless it was gloss all the way through which would be weird and yet awesome.

If the leaked specs are true, this is definitely my upgrade phone from a Samsung Focus once my upgrade comes around in May.  16GB is fine with me, I only keep my playlists of favorite songs on my phone along with podcasts.

      • mlewis

happy focus owner and yes will be my next phone! awesome

    • rsgx

Nice, this is exactly what it needs to be.

Big things for Nokia in 2012 – I hope it does well in the US.

    • http://twitter.com/blakehaas blakehaas

This is bullshit, im stuck on t-mobile with all these low end devices.

      • Anonymous

Time to move to a real carrier.

      • Anonymous

No offense but when you’re on a budget carrier on the verge of going out of business you can kind of expect that…

        • Anonymous

The abundance of high end android phone on tmobile would seem to contradict that opinion.

          • Anonymous

Um not really unless you consider 3 an abundance.

Most of their android line is squarely in the same mid to budget range.  They’re a budget carrier (not opinion) on the verge of going out of business (not opinion) and their selection reflects that.

Honestly even their high-end isn’t that impressive.  Good phones for the most part but nothing that is really their own (save the mytouch 4G).

If this turns out to be true, I’d rather not buy. I am waiting for and willing to trade my rather young (and oh, so pretty!) Lumia 800 for a TRUE flagship device, but unless 2 conditions are met i think the 800 might actually be preferrable to the 900:
      1) Size: The Lumia 800 has roughly the same dimensions as the HD2. This is perfectly fine, but if I am going to buy a 4.3 inch again (which i’d love to), I want it to be the screen which is bigger, not the whole handset. The 800′s Dimensions are imo perfect, but the frame around the screen leaves a lot of unsed screen real estate available
      2) Resolution: If i buy a flagship phone, i want it to be at least in the middle class after about a year, and not to be completely laggind behind the moment I buy it. The HD2 had 800*640 2 years ago. qHD/HD/Full HD is coming up, and WP7′s only major, crucial flaw (regarding specs) to me is the lack of higher resolutions. That might (and hopefuly will) change once Apollo arrives, but having bought a 900 BEFORE that explicitly implies buying a premium handset just a couple of months before the real, true premium handsets come out.
There is – besides puling a really big rabbit out of the hat – nothing really that makes this 900 worth paying the premium fee over the 800. Sure, ffc might be nice to show off a couple times once skype is out, and I have yet to stop cursing about only 16 Gigs of Storage, but I guess the 900 will have at least 200€’s on the 800. IMO not worth it, the 800 is the better deal.
      And gloss? Really? sigh…

      • rsgx

A 4.3″ screen, FFC and up to 32gb storage are more than enough reasons to choose the 900 over the 800.

Hell, if the Lumia 800 came with a 4.3″ screen I would have probably bought one by now.

I’ve got my upgrade in April, but I think I’ll wait until Apollo comes out and then upgrade. My Mozart still does the job very nicely.

        • Anonymous

Agreed, the only thing stopping me buying the lush 800, is no ffc and the really small screen (for a HD2/HD7 user).

I must admit, every time I pass an 800 in the shop I have to slap my wrists!!! Though shall not give into temptation until the Lumia 900!!!!

    • http://www.thewingster.com andrewbares

I feel like these little blogs lie about things like “hands on” of rumored devices just for the page hits….. Pics or it didn’t happen.

    • Anonymous

I’m OK with all of this.

Problem is I could have told you the exact same thing.  Not that I don’t believe it, just when rumors get repeated this often it is hard to tell when you’re just hearing more echo and when it is true.

Looking forward to it as my next phone.  Pissed that I have to wait for April.

    • http://twitter.com/counterblow the person

ok so this will be my next phone, it sounds epic.

    • http://twitter.com/pierrerv Pierre Venescar

c’mon people if Nokia really let those suckers play with the phone you think they’d be talking about it that freely? the Lumia 900 is gonna be a bang

      • Anonymous

Depends if they broke the non-disclosure agreement?  Do you think no one gets to see the phone before release?  There was pretty much nothing on the 800 before it’s release but I do know someone that had seen it due to their work.

Reviewers are not the only people in this industry. I’m sure if WMPowerUser had one they would not post anything about it or they could risk legal action.

Reviews that appear on day 1 are normally prepared well in advance.

    • Anonymous

it’s just sad they didn’t put the ffc into the 800 (yes…we don’t use it much, but it seems like a fun thing to use it sometimes :P )

it sounds like 900 isnt much of an upgrade lol, except for having 4.3″ & ffc & 32GB…i like how the 800 is handling the microusb and the sim now. :D

    • http://lunchbreak.myopenid.com/ LunchBreak

I fine without the NFC because NFC is not very popular in Asia. But I do need the front facing camera. Hope this is good news. Btw, is Tango an upgrade of Mango, or “slimmed down” version of Mango?? I’m confused.

      • Anonymous

I don’t think anyone knows anymore.

Originally it was supposed to be the budget version of Mango for developing markets.  Then the story started that it would be what enables LTE to work on the phone, yet now MS says that Nokia has had a LTE version of Mango for months.

    • Anonymous

I doubt I will like the gloss finish.

    • Anonymous

      fake, no doubt about this!

    • http://profiles.yahoo.com/u/CW3SETFCKRB5NRLX5QZK3EMRWY Joe

the nokia Gadgets article does not mention that the Ace has a front facing camera  in fact is laments that it appears not to have a FFC!
