CNET looks at Windows Phone 7 Xbox Live integration

CNET’s Ina Fried has been having some unusual access to Windows Phone 7 development, including use of a developer handset, and have published these hands-on video of the games in action.

Interestingly in the video above the Microsoft rep mentions that developers are allowed key board control for games, something which has so far not been confirmed.

Another interesting point she has been able to glean from hands-on experience is some issues with battery life:

She says:

One of my concerns, though, is around battery life. Although the Samsung Taylor device I am using is not a final phone, nor is the software fully done, I only get several hours of battery life on the phone I am using–and that is without doing any gaming or much in the way of music streaming. That’s unfortunate because gaming and music are two of the areas where Windows Phone shines and places where it has something rivals don’t (Xbox Live andZune Pass).

Eww… Wikipedia says, "Prior to June 2003, Fried transitioned from male to female and began using the byline "Ina Fried." Fried had previously signed articles "Ian Fried."

Why don't you show a bit of fucking humanity and respect? A sex change operation 7 years ago has absolutely no effect on the validity of her reporting. Follow the utterly vacuous fashion industry if you're only interested in what someone looks like. You people make me sick.

        • KennyB123

Never said it had any effect on his reporting. ;-)

        • OOOO

her reporting? check her dna, guarantee its xy.

That battery life observation is inconsistent with everything else i've heard from those who have had the chance to get a dev device. FWIW

Ina's a stickler to battery life. I think she complained about KIN's batter life as well. She probably has some insane batt. life expectations.

      • KennyB123

To be fair, if Ina is truly getting 3 hours of battery life… it's something to be quite worried about.

That being said, I'm not worried about it. Microsoft knew it had several deal breakers to their success of WP7 – fluidity ans speed of the UI, development of quality apps, and good battery life. It's why they do "multi-tasking" the way they do, at the moment. I have no doubt that battery life will be good, if not exceptional, on the true production phones.

battery life has been my only big concern with this phone. all those notifications (live tiles) must use up some battery
if it does not last the day, many people will feel it is not useful.

    • Mika

Agree…. Get a PSP or NDS if someone require need heavy gaming…. No point having a phone that drains up all the batt, and ending up unable to use for normal calls and SMS. LOL!

If that's your feelings on the matter, then you are on the wrong website.
Go buy a dumb phone if you're *that* worried about battery life.
