About BRIEUX Antoine

  • Drewidian

Nice. I like the modular design, but I don't think that it is durable enough. Based on the connector, it is apparent that it uses a pin connector. Pins get bent all of the time. I'd prefer a micro USB or some other kind of connection, but it is an interesting concept.

    perfect design

The Tube Phone concept seems rather unnecessary, but I can see value in being able to slide the phone into a shell to run a tablet or a notebook. Just put a special port on the bottom of the phone like on the iPhone and have it dock in whatever device you need it to.

  • CalumCookable

Cartridges? WTF? Why not just have the two operating systems in ROM?

  • clint

The intention is that the cartridge is everything about the device other than the screen and peripherals. Not just the OS. I love the concept.

  • Paul

    Very cool.

  • John Ylinen

Good concept; but go all the way. Where do you need your phone cartridge? Add a HDTV dock like Motorola did. Also, give me a slot in my car so that I can just slide it in and have a screen and built in capabilities and use the phone CPU, Memory, and storage. Have a dock for a clamshell laptop or have the tablet have a keyboard and you have changed what users have to carry and use.

Of course the hardware manufacters and carriers won't let it happen. They want consumers to buy each of those devices and have a different data plan for each.

The Android one would be possible.
Microsoft has already said WP7 will not be used for tablets.
While some concepts are cool, my problem with industrial designers is they don't grasp engineering limitations.
That's not necessarily a dig on the guy who did this, because other than the OS limitations, it seems plausible, even likely to happen.

    • Paul

"Microsoft has already said WP7 will not be used for tablets. "

For now. In the future WP7 will probably move to a Windows codebase and not a CE one. Then yes, it would be quite possible.

This is a very noice design and I for one would buy it. But I would love to see what Samsung and Nokia would come up with pretty soon..

  • jimski

LOL. I started thinking of this after I got my first Palm Pilot many moons ago. A dock with a larger screen, physical kb, more memory, ports and eventually memory card slots. I envisioned these docks being available as kiosks at airports, or at hotel chains, coffee shops, etc. So all you needed to carry was your PDA/Phone + port adapter and you could be productive. Of course back then, I was not even thinking of the Cloud. Guess I should have sold everything I owned and taken a trip to Asia. The world, and my bank account, could have been very different today.

This is exactly what I've been hoping to see aswell. In 5 years time (so Window "9") the phone could be your computer. Put it inside a slate and it activates a slate OS, put it inside a TV dock and it becomes a HTPC. Put it inside a desktop dock and it becomes a full desktop computer. Then Microsoft could sell licenses with the docks instead of complete computers.

I'm not normally a fan of Concept articles but at least this an actual concept rather than "what X phone should look like when it's released".

I think this is the way things will go in the future as phones take over basic functions that used to be done by PC. Biggest letdown is WP7! When will MS realise that WP7 would work so well in Tablet form and shoot Windows in the head if it trys to get off the PC.

I've been saying for a while now (and posted on their WP FB page) that WP7 needs a universal type docker so that 3rd parties can develop accessories like they have for the iPhone.

forgot to add (because my MS rant took over) that this looks really neat, just needs a couple of real-world tweaks.
