Contacts and Calendar database to be accessible on Mango, but with provisos

Mango will bring many welcome changes, including the ability for 3rd party apps to access contacts and calendar information.

As the graph shows above, not all data in the people’s hub will be available, with non-Microsoft networks being particular limited, like Facebook and even worse twitter.

Worse still however is that the data will be read-only, meaning alternate PIM clients are still not viable.

After the break however Microsoft does give an example of how the data would still be very useful for an app, allowing for example for invitations to be sent out to contacts and for apps to know when you are free.

depends on their API needs, but I don't see why they would need to write to the contact….

I just want to organize my contacts BY COMPANY, a core feature of Outlook and the old Windows Mobile. If MS won't do it, maybe a 3rd party app will.
