Dell Venue Pro Review From AnandTech

Dell Venue Pro, the only vertical qwerty slider Windows Phone 7 device ran into many issues related to manufacturing, software,etc. Now, Dell has corrected all of those issues and its now available to order from many countries in US, UK and Asia. Dell Venue Pro received many positive comments regarding its industrial design. AnandTech has posted a very detailed review of Dell Venue Pro starting from its hardware feel to the software. They also have posted some great comparisons between iPhone 4, Samsung Nexus S, Motorola Atrix 4G with Windows Phone 7 devices. Check out the source link to read those. Here is the excerpt from their Dell Venue Pro review conclusion,

It’s exceedingly well designed and well built, but the biggest difference between this and similarly well designed products from HTC and Samsung is that the Dell is the one device that’s really new. The remainder of the launch devices are pretty much rehashes of previous devices, while Dell basically started from scratch with the Thunder/Lightning platform, though why they decided to rechristen them the Venue and Venue Pro on the way to production is anyone’s guess.

I thought it had 256MB RAM? Anandtech says 512MB

The NoDo update fixed that. The newer Venue Pros shipped with NoDo apparently and I am guessing that Anandtech got their hands on one.

"An interesting note about the RAM is that the phone only displays 256MB of memory, if you use the Marketplace app called “SystemInfo”. However, Dell clarified that there is actually 512MB of memory, but some of it was used by the operating system prior to being made available to applications, causing the app to report the amount of RAM incorrectly"

The app is "system info" not "systeminfo". I am sure dell is lying as my HTC 7 Mozart shows 498221056 (~512MB RAM – RAM used by system) as total device memory. How can Venue Pro use half of it?!

Dellcares told me a couple days ago that they're still testing functionality, so the proposed software fix isn't out there yet.

I'd be interested in hearing if even one person that owns a 16G (from the factory) DVP can connect to a wi-fi network and not lock up.

I received my 16GB DVP Jan 13 and haven't had any issues with WiFi, bluetooth or 3G reception. I connect to my secured Wifi at home all the time and I have even connected to ones in stores. I leave my wifi on all day with no issues and have my bluetooth turned on as well.

I have had my Dell Venue Pro since January 13th, and I haven't had a single lock up on Wi-Fi. I have connected to my home secured network as well as work, Barnes and Noble and even a Target one without a single issue.

If they had made this available sooner I would have bought it ASAP, however they're too late to the game for this generation of WP7 devices IMHO. I have my LG phone for another year or so before the contract expires and that's going to hurt Dell despite making a sexy device… and by that time I may or may not go Nokia.

I have a 16gb and no wifi issues either, i also have a lg quantum, and samsung focus and the dell runs just as smooth as they do with no issues so far. So not sure whats up with the RAM but doesnt seem to affect if in real world use
