Developers: Microsoft wants your Mango-fied apps now!

In a long post lauding the Windows Phone 7 ecosystem and its potential, Matt Bencke, General Manager for the Windows Phone 7 Marketplace ended with a plea for developers to submit their updated apps as soon as possible, if only to enable fast task switching.

He writes:

The time to get your Mango apps into Marketplace is now. AT&T announced their Mango lineup on Monday, and existing customers will begin getting their OS update this fall. At a minimum it’s worth updating your existing app now so that when customers experience Mango they benefit from “fast app switching” multitasking, which requires little more than a recompile of the app. If you want to stand out from the crowd, get your apps updated to take advantage of other Mango features like Live Tiles and App Connect.

Part of our plan for Windows Phone and this community has been to ensure that we build a great platform and sell it to a lot of customers. With the recent addition of Nokia as a key ecosystem partner, you will see even more handsets in even more markets. We have already announced the doubling of the supported markets for app ingestion, but you can also expect a wider range of price points across the Windows Phone portfolio to ensure more phones are sold to more customers.

It’s a great time to be a developer. Mango will start landing on phones this fall. What are you going to build?

they’re still saying “mango will hit phones this fall” the night before we’re hoping they would release it. im pretty sure that means it’s not being released tomorrow.

when theywent into nodo did they put out a notice like this months in advance of the nodo release? I dont remember or recall that happening. Is your glass half full or half empty?

i don’t remember the details about nodo. But my point is that if they wanted to rush developers to publish their mango-fied apps, what better way is there than to have told them “hurry up and update ur apps because mango is gonna start rolling out tomorrow!”
My glass was half full.. right now i’m just trying not to look at it i guess we’ll find out the details tomorrow! i hope ur right and that they do release it though!!!!

I hope I am right too. But I am not trying to say that ATT will have it out tomorrow I am not expecting that What I am thinking is nthat maybe they will have a rollout for unbranded/unlocked devices tomorrow in which case some ATT focus/quantum woners might unlocked and get it and tell us chicken er realists on the fence what its like and within a few days ATT will follow suit being “among the first (few) carriers to roll it out./ Cross your fingers but dont hold your breath. I cant do that much anyways because of breathing issues.

Yep Microsoft I like to release my app in Mango mode but what’s about the clients still in Nodo or Pre Nodo? I can’t bear the idea to not having support for those people stuck with issues I wouldn’t be able to fix anymore. Microsoft let me keeping two versions of my app and then I will agree.
It could be 2 months or more before some carriers provide Mango upgrade. Imagine 2 months or worse! I know some users have still PreNodo versions of their phone

There’s no point in contacting them, Microsoft specifically brought up the issue on the WP7 dev blog. They said they will provide a solution to the issue then never followed up.
