Does China love Windows Mobile?

So says ChinaPolling, who have polled 406 Chinese consumers.  The survey is mainly directed at answering questions about consumer adoption of China’s nascent 3G networks, and showed most consumers intend to upgrade to the new technology within the next year.

However when asked what OS they preferred on their smartphones, a stunning 70.2% picked Windows Mobile, followed by Symbian with only 10.7%.

The real question is of course the validity of the data, with Windows Mobile only holding a 10% smartphone market share in China, and 400 people being only a tiny fraction of the estimated 1.3 billion people in China, but on wmpoweruser.com we are not going to be arguing too much, are we ;)

With a population of 1.3 billion, a truly random sample of 400 would only give a margin of error of 4.9%. Since the number of cell phone users is probably much less than 1.3 billion, the margin of error would be even less.

Of course, this is all assuming that it’s a good sample and a well-conducted scientific survey.

Well from someone that lived in Shanghai for quite a while, yes, they do like windows mobile. Why? They like to write words using the stylus. I don’t know why… But for a lot of people, that is their preferred method of input in China. They don’t mind the pecking with the stylus at all. As always, these are only my own observations. I’m not saying it’s the truth. It’s just what I see daily on the streets and in the subways.
