Eldar: Nokia WP7 prototypes are out, W7 and W8 coming this year, 12 devices planned for 2012

eldarw8 nokia_n8_front_silver_604x604 Perennial Nokia leaker Eldar Murtazin claims to have had some hands-on time with a Nokia Windows Phone 7 prototype, and has posted some additional information about the company’s road map.

He claims that 4 models are currently in development, and due to the need for speed in many cases the phones will bear a close resemblance to the Symbian devices they replace.

The first set of devices will be very similar to the current generation of Windows Phone 7 devices, and the second wave will be so-called chassis 2 devices with new form factors, including low-end processors and QWERTY devices with landscape touch screens.

He notes the first devices will have 8 megapixel cameras and a 12 megapixel N8 variant will also be coming to Windows Phone 7.

He also said that Nokia’s plans are changing week on week, but consideration is being given to make the most powerful Windows Phone as a selling point, with dual processors and powerful GPUs.

Lastly, they are also looking at creating a business-focussed service, again as a selling point for their handsets.

I'm excited about the Nokia devices. I can update both of my devices come this fall so I may end up with lest one of them.But again that depends on what T-MO does.

Well, the N8 has 16 GB of on-board memory, as well as support for a removable SD card (up to 32 GB), so it shouldn't be a problem with the W8.

That's amazingly quick… to whip up these Windows Phone prototypes in a few weeks.

I wonder if they create more prototypes than they actually need, then just take the best ones to market.

Nokia always made solid devices. I still have and use a 1999 device. we keep it in the shed outside encase we need to make a call. that is all it does make and receive calls.I will buy one depends on what T-MO gets from them

Honestly I think the holdup for Nokia devices will only be Mango, especially if they are using already quality device designs and 'porting' WP7 to them.

On a personal note, as someone STILL waiting on a Verizon device, the idea of waiting for one of these to see IF Verizon releases one of these would just be too much. I have to take the plunge sometime, as there will always be new and better devices on the horizon …
