Exclusive: Facebook video uploads, Facebook Places check-in coming in Mango

We saw some clues that Windows phone 7 will support some kind of Check-in service, and now we have confirmation via an anonymous tipster, who received an e-mail from Microsoft during Mobile World Congress on the announcement of Mango.

Besides covering the public features, the email notes that VIP Community Members were informed that Windows Phone 7 will also support Facebook Video uploads and Facebook check-ins.

While Microsoft has announced 1,500 new API’s in Windows Phone 7.5, they have also made it clear there will be many more consumer features which will only be revealed at a later date.

This has nothing to do with the app, it's built in features. Hopefully there will be a new location or travel hub for it.

This most likely refers to the OS itself, not just apps. So videos you record on your phone can be uploaded to facebook from within the os, just like images can. Check ins would presumably happen through Bing Local. The whole check in thing matches what we've heard recently (and seen in testing on twitter).

For all the people saying they already have check in or are just referring to the Facebook app in general, please stop. Its pretty obvious these features are coming in via the hubs so you don't have to use the app itself.

No, it's furthering their move to integrated experiences. Less hoping in and out of apps. If they make some sort of travel or location hub you'd be able to check in to multiple services at once.

Thats like saying it would be pointless with better facebook-integration in the peoples-hub since we already have the facebookapp.
Wrong.
The apps will probably never be as fast as integrated features. I would love to skip the facebook-app, right now Im skipping the useless peoples hub.

The problem with hubs though has been the painfully slow rate of development. With apps you have the advantage that a motivated service provider (fb, twitter) or an interested third party can drive the rate at which features are added.It's likely that, with adequate API support, apps will generally be ahead of the built in integration.

Hopefully when this comes they'll just discontinue the standalone Facebook app, because it's utter garbage.

A lot of that is due to the currently missing APIs. For instance the Facebook app on other platforms has built-in picture and video support.
