Fennec Alpha 4 now available

Mozilla has announced a new Alpha for their Mobile Firefox product on Windows Mobile. The timing is opportune, as their project has been seen to be in doubt after comments by one of their executives suggesting they may wait till Windows Phone 7 is released.

New in this version is:

Improved interactions with the software keyboard
Fixed painting artefacts from panning
Faster .exe installer option
More responsive "fuzzy" zoom
Option to become default browser
Opening downloads from download manager fixed
Password echoing
Improved panning/scrolling performance
Improved start-up time
Numerous bug fixes
Improved painting performance
Improved UI polish
Improved kinetic panning with directional locking
Ability to scroll frames
Improved zooming support

what are they doing?

Fennec always disappoints and this release is no exception. That neotouch must be on roids or something cuz it does not run like that on my phone. By the way, 10MB cab is actually 30MB installation!! ouch!!

This somehow ruined Opera on my HD2 as well as not working. Fennec doesn't load anything, and Opera just gets stuck at the Loading… screen with the green htc logo.

Fortunately uninstalling it thankfully restores Opera….

I hadn't seen that, but that's not my problem. My problem is that Mozilla won't connect to any websites and in addition ruins Opera somehow.

If I installed Fennec and it crashed, then it would be pretty straightforward. But I kept installing and uninstalling thinking I was doing something wrong… I don't see how it screws up Opera at the same time as well. rather strange.

Whatever, looks more and more like Mozilla's 15 minutes of fame are up. I've started to migrate on the PC, and will when Chrome has enough extensions, and on the mobile too I have no issues passing on Mozilla. I know they're only in alpha, but every single one of their four alphas have been severely unstable and almost completley unusable for any serious browsing.
