First HTC Omega renders confirm front-facing camera

image

Pocketnow has published the first renders of the HTC Omega, rumoured to have a 3.8 inch screen.  the device resembles the HTC Mozart, but in a first for a HTC Windows Phone 7 handset, sports a front-facing camera.

The handset does not look as slim as I would like, but the styling is at least a small departure from the darker handsets we saw last year.

What do our readers think of this device? Let us know below.

You know, if this is what the actual color of the device will be, then I say, it’s a start; hopefully, the start of HTC attempting to set their WP devices apart from, their Android offerings ( from an aesthetic/appearance standpoint).  So, HTC, don’t stop with this; keep the changes coming!

Looks great but I can’t imagine using a sub 4″ screen now.

  • rsgx

Still think my Mozart looks better.

This is actually pretty damn ugly.

I mean, I understand you have to use non-metal parts (top and bottom) to prevent signal loss, but does it have to be so obviously plastic?

    Our relationship is definitely over.

    • Anonymous

It reminds me of the HTC Flyer tablet but only even uglier than the tablet :-. I honestly do not know where HTC is going with this, certainly I am not a fan of it.

I’m glad I am waiting for Nokia! HTC has dropped the balls lately and lost my respect.

I would like to see on the official press shots, the white theme instead of the black one. Cause it look a bit weird, with white hardware, and that big black background. Just saying..

    • Anonymous

I like the look of it, and bet the white theme would look much better.

    Well….
Looks okay, but I expected something a bit more “special”…

    • Anonymous

@Julian Bickelmann…but this is HTC we’re talking about here!  I really don’t think they know what ‘special’ means.

      • Anonymous

Just what I was thinking! LOL

why does it look like a n8?

    • Anonymous

      Blasphemy!  Take that back!

      • http://twitter.com/domineus Malcolm Williams

blasphemy look at the silver n8 and come back to me. Heck even the charging port is at the same end…

        • Anonymous

Seriously?  I have a blue N8!  This phone looks NOTHING like it (silver or otherwise).

          • http://twitter.com/domineus Malcolm Williams

silver one looks quite similar save from the volume and card buttons. Same silver matte, same charger location, etc etc etc…

          • Anonymous

@Malcolm Williams – Nope(save your assertion of the micro usb port location)!

Your powers of visual discernment are, well, not too discerning; but if they work for you………

Something looks wrong.. there are no hardware buttons on the sides..

    • Anonymous

You can see the camera button and barely make out the power button on top, but yeah no volume on the side.  Might just be a render issue, who knows.

Looks like a shitty HTC Android phone. Do not like. Do not want. Where is Nokia?

  • DevStar

This looks pretty hot to me.  I like the white sytling on it.   If this was on Sprint I might get it.

Recycled designs once again from HTC. Forget them, lets see what Sammy is bringing to the party…

    • Anonymous

Not that I think there’s any company that doesn’t recycle designs constantly (Not one jumps to mind, even Samsung), but this looks like such a week effort by HTC.  It looks like they took their old design and stuck WP on it, and then added their own custom apps without even glancing at a pamphlet on Metro design (their phones(apps) suck at utilizing it, in my opinion)

      • http://www.facebook.com/leoplan2 Alvaro Osvaldo López-García

        week design or weak design?

        • Anonymous

Was my comment honestly flagged for misspelling “weak” and then correcting it?

    • Anonymous

Sure is.  Take a look at her twin Android sister http://pockethacks.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/htc-bliss3.jpg

Nevermind about Sammy.  Nokia show us your daughters, let us see her beauty..tease us a little.

  • Anonymous

im glad its not black. lets hope it stays that way. far from exciting though.

  • Anonymous

The thickness is not bad considering it’s only a 3.8″ device.  I think it’s actually a very good design especially for females.

  • http://twitter.com/dustbeta Dustin Schultz

Ugly in that color.  Underwhelming device.  Boring in my opinion.  I will keep on waiting.  Amazing how pathetic all of these OEM’s are really.  Oh well, don’t really even need a cell phone.

Not much different than the upcoming Android Bliss model. Obviously a white/silver face rather than black, but overall similar body, and design.

very nice phone for my mother or sister =)
I like it but not for me.. I want 4.2” best display/audio and the best camera!! (nokia hopes!!)

HTC = Recycle Designs over and over and over…………..what makes this any different from the current Android competition?

HTC should change their slogan from “Quietly Brilliant” to “Quality Recycling”

    • Anonymous

I wish makers would put different design styles out for their windows phones.  Everything looks the same as their non-WP7 models

  • Anonymous

samsung devices look so much better, are slimmer, lighter, and have the best screen. why do the other OEMs even exist?

    • Anonymous

Disagree… NAND is better than SD memory for speed, AMOLED doesn’t display colours as ACCURATELY, and Sammy phones feel cheap in the hand.

      Why do they even bother?

      See?  To each his own.

HTC is making it very easy for Nokia, Samsung, Acer, heck anyone who actually wants to

The device looks like miniature version of the HTC Flyer.

HTC – Recycling the same design for over 2 years :D

This device only makes sense if its a cheap one…

lets say about 300€ in Germany.

  • http://twitter.com/MaulerX MaulerX

What are people complaining about? It’s not a bad looking phone considering it’s more than likely HTC’s low end Mango phone (and it has a FF camera to boot).  The source link for this article states:

“We also expect HTC to announce a second, higher-end Windows Phone 7 next week, codenamed the HTC Eternity.”

    • rsgx

“The HTC Eternity will not only be high-end, but also look just like… every other phone we’ve made recently.”

      • http://twitter.com/MaulerX MaulerX

Where did that quote come from? Link? If not, then you just made it obvious that you’re just trolling on HTC.

        • rsgx

Of course I am. I own an HTC Mozart, I have a right to troll them.

  • Anonymous

Sure it looks alot like other HTC phones, but that’s not exactly a bad thing. The new color scheme is sure to make it stand out among the slew of Android HTC phones.

      Agree!

I cant believe no one has picked up on the new HTC ‘Watch’ app……its HTCs movie app that was released with the new version of Android/Sense.

I like the way it looks but you wont catch me with a white phone. If I wanted a white one I could get a damn iPhone.

  • http://www.facebook.com/jayswanson42 Jay Swanson

That is NOT a front-facing camera. I see a spot for the proximity and light sensors and another spot for the notification light. They are in the same exact spots as my Trophy which this is basically a direct replacement of, and therefore targeting to mid-range.
I’ll be surprised if the Eternity (which should replace the HD7) doesn’t have a FFC

  • Anonymous

I really don’t understand all this hate towards HTC. It looks like a HTC phone. Everyone was excited about the Samsung phone that was shown off but that just looked like a Galaxy S. Each manufacturer has a style, even though I think LG and Samsungs designs are basically black slates.

If you don’t like the HTC style, don’t buy a HTC phone… Simple as that. They are not going to do a dramatic change.

HTC has made a name for themselves with hardware but mostly with Sense UI in their Androids. They have supported WP7 the most by supplying 5 handsets in the first year. If they can find a way to incorporate some of the Sense functions built into their own devices (not just an HTC hub), I think that will be their differentiation which has worked so well for them with their Android handsets.Nokia will be the one which will bring different interesting designs. Even though the Sea Ray is just the N9.

    • http://twitter.com/MaulerX MaulerX

I agree. It’s impossible to have decent objective discussions in this place when people are openly and admitedly trolling, and getting upvoted for it. One thing is to provide costructive criticism, and another to make up trollish quotes and pass them off as fact.

Sorry, another boring design by HTC.
Just like her twin sister andoid http://pockethacks.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/htc-bliss3.jpg

  • Gadget Ebz

Surely the point is to get more variety into the Windows Phone space ??
I have no problem with this design at all…

  • Anonymous

Whats up with all HTC curved contours…every phone nearly resembeles the other from HTC, change is required..

  • Anonymous

I still use an HTC HD2 and am waiting for decent hardware before jumping to WP7 & whilst I have used various HTC phones for years; their current design offerings are making me want to jump ship to another
manufacturer – however if there is a 4.7″ beauty in the wings…..
