First official mention of Windows Phone 8 promises to “stir up the out of box experience”

Microsoft has made their first official mention of Windows phone 8 in a job posting recruiting for a Software Development Engineer.

The post post describes the missions statement and challenge of the Windows Phone team in Windows Phone 8 as “stirring up the out of box experience for Windows Phone 8 and is committed to building/improving a compelling and dynamic high quality look and feel to our end user experience.

So far we do not know much about Windows Phone 8, except for the OS having the code name “Apollo” and from titbits gleaned by accident, for example this unwiped whiteboard at Microsoft Research which notes that Apollo will have “one-handed text input, voice texting, and a new localization and inspiration and context engine”.

There is also rumours that the OS will see the unification of Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 in some way, at least to the degree that they will share applications.

Interestingly the job post describes Windows phone 8 as a “a strategic and exciting product targeted at the next version of Windows” which may support those rumours, but of course this may just be a turn of phrase.
