For Developers: Windows Mobile 6.5.3 SDK pulled? (Updated)

Via a tweet from Arktronic we have just learned that Microsoft’s Windows Mobile 6.5 SDK is now no longer available for download.

On checking the URL where the software used to reside we now only get an error screen.

Arktronic speculates this may be to issues with Visual Studio 2008. While we have not been able to confirm this elsewhere, we can say in our attempts to make the emulator visible in Visual Studio has all ended in failure, so that does seem rather plausible.

We will update this article when more information becomes available.

Update: Official word from the WMDev twitter channel:

With regards to 6.5 SDK, we prematurely released an untested SDK which was not ready. We pulled it so proper testing can be completed….

we’ll def make an official announce when the SDK is ready to go. Those responsible have been sent to the dungeons for execution. ^LU

Perhaps the issues caused when installing both the Windows Mobile 6.0 and 6.5 SDK will be resolved with what ever changes are being made.

I've had problems installing this SDK: It replaces 6.0 SDK and have incorrect names for some of the emulator images. Probably this is the reason and in a few days we well have a fixed one again.

It uninstalled my 6.0SDK installation without even asking, besides that works fine in my PC. Hope they fix that in the next version so we can have both versions installed.

Did you all remember to uninstall the developer toolkit? I never had any of these problems that you all are mentioning. I still have my 6.0 sdk in tact and the 6.5 was installed with no issues.

Now I see what you're all talking about. I must have read my sdk list too fast in the drop down. My 6.0 is missing also. Going to go through my machine and see if maybe its just not showing up in the target platforms. I don't see why it would completly remove the 6.0. It's probably still there, just jacked up a little keeping it from showing in the target platform list.

I ran into the same issue. Installed the new 6.5 SDK and it screwed up most/all of the previous SDK & toolkit packages I had installed. After 6.5 SDK was installed, I could no longer open a Windows Mobile project I was working on in Visual Studio 2008 as it complained the 6.0 SDK did not exist.

I reinstalled the 6.0 SDK refresh, and then ran repair on the 6.5 SDK. I was then able to open 6.0 projects in VS, but all my 6.0/6.1 emulators were gone. Only 6.x versions left were the new 6.5.3 ones. Had to repair the 6.0 & 6.1 "Professional Images" packages to get the older emulators back.

I ran into issue with this, although somewhat different. I had VS 2008 installed with WM 6.0 and 6.1 SDK plus WM 6.5 DTK installed. I uninstalled the DTK and installed 6.5 SDK. It made my 6.1 SDK to disapper although 6.0 remained. I repaired the installation and then both 6.0 and 6.5 SDK appeared but 6.1 SDK is missing from all the menus.

Look at it this way, if you have the original 6.5 sdk installer, you have a collector's item
