Fujitsu IS12T to be the first Windows Phone Mango handset, coming August

fujitsuphoneTezawaly from Nanapho.jp has come across and article in Nikkei reporting on Fujitsu Toshiba’s first Windows Phone 7 handset, the Fujitsu IS12T.

The handset has already passed through the FCC and Bluetooth Certification and will be launching on the Japanese carrier KDDI.

Nikkei reports the handset will only have a 3.7 inch LCD screen however, even smaller than we expected.  Even more unexpected however is that Nikkei says the handset will be launched in August, and will be the first Mango handset launch worldwide.

With other rumours of Mango being released by September and Microsoft showing off handsets in public it may be that Mango is much closer than we ever imagined.

Screen size is ok for a lower priced phone but the old problem seems to be reoccuring, just 1 WP7 handset? Against the sea of android’s this will hardly be noticed and once again its back to status quo of low sales. MS really is better off just focusing on Nokia, these OEM’s are trying their best to screw WP7.

As far as you know another phone could be coming out two days after. Way to jump the gun

@Ef Jay.. With regards to this device, well, it’s Fujitsu and it’s being released in Japan. I don’t really see anything U.S. launch worthy about this device/brand. Nonetheless, the more popular oem’s (Samsung, etc.,) really need to bring their best to WP7 this go around for WP and the fans of those manufacturers.

Agree with you on Microsoft focusing on Nokia, as Nokia are the only eom that is really ‘all in’ with WP. And given that Nokia will be releasing one device in 2011 and at least 12 devices in 2012 (which exceeds the total number of devices currently on the market for all WP devices), WP will really be able to gain a lot more traction and acceptance through this partnership.

    now that’s news :-)

This is NoDo all over again! Until Microsoft says they launch in August – DO NOT belive it!
I see a lot of crying commenters in September (“They said August *buhuhu*”)
Really weird and sad that this site once again encourages false expectations…

The blog post just claims that this is the first Mango handset, not that it’s the only one. AFAIK, there’s usually just one model to be “first.” :)

Of course, it might be the only one Fujitsu ever releases. Time will tell.

    • http://twitter.com/efjay01 Ef Jay

I agree, but I hope it doesnt turn out to be the only one as we’ve seen with T-Mobile, Verizon, Sprint and other carriers in Europe which then get pushed to the back of the store. MS crowed about its carrier and OEM partners but they all seemed to just be there for the photo op and just pushed WP7 aside as they rode the android train. MS needs for them to get behind WP7 100% and not half ass it like before.

That means the software update might come out before the new handsets, ie, next month?

    • http://twitter.com/oslicek David Petrla

No. :-) The update may easily come after the first phones. :-)

But on the other hand I have always felt Microsoft targets rather Back to School than Christmas season with Mango. It just makes sense.

      • Michael Plant

Agreed, I’d be very surprised if we WP7 users got Mango earlier than November/December. MS is going to want to help OEM’s generate some buzz about their new phones and it will be harder to do that if existing users get Mango early and forego buying new phones this fall.

        • rsgx

What you’re forgetting is that if this phone comes out with a final Mango build, a leaked ROM is sure to follow.

        • Anonymous

I don’t understand that mindset, as it is highly unlikely that anyone that bought a WP7 device in the last year will be able to upgrade to a new device already unless they either buy it off contract or bought their first device off contract and can use their upgrade on for a Mango device (which, ironically, is the category that I’m in :D ).

Mango devices are to grow the userbase beyond those of us that have them now. To have the Mango update available on our devices would only help spread the word.

          • rsgx

            Also a good point.

They have NO reason to hold back the update if a final build can be released on a phone in Japan.

I hope the software is released some time in August.

    Is it christmas already?

    crap phone.

Its amazing how OEMs recycle their androshit handsets about 6M-1Y later for WP7 and STILL manage to bring the device with even worse specs than before…sheesh.

Make a zune phone already M$…this companies suck bananas.

Anybody who uses “M$” is either retarded or 14 years old………or both.

      • Michael Plant

Nice… Clearly this is an example of the pot calling the kettle black.

        Why so, retard?

lousy phone or not… wait for the review.

This is great news. But more importantly, it validates Microsofts promise to give the ImagineCup finalists a new WP7 Mango headset in September. Meaning, WP7 Mango devices are indeed closer than we thought. Bring it on!!

As long as it comes in something other than pink then okay thats great

Always good news. This really can’t happen soon enough.

August is good… MS now has to encourage OEMs to stagger releases somewhat, so they don’t just hit twice a year.

Which Mango is it shipping with… beta 2?.. I hope they don’t rush with things.. mango seems little bit unfinished to me. You don’t want to leave a bad taste in people’s mouth.. so to speak.

    • Anonymous

I believe the beta we are using is already more than 2 months old.

      • rsgx

Any rumours on the final build?

        • Anonymous

Not that I have heard, except of course that it supports twitter (which has been showing up in tweets)

What is the processor, storage and memory? Metal casing etc. Type of screen and 480×800 res or hopefully qhd res.

    • http://profiles.google.com/marco89nish Marco Mitic

I was interested in CPU used and found out that Android version of this phone uses Qualcomm QSD8250, original Snapdragon used in HD2 and all current WP7 phones. And screen is 854×480, like N9.
