GSMArena Nokia Lumia 800 battery test delivers mixed results

gsmarena_001 GSMArena have completed a comprehensive battery life test on the Nokia Lumia 800. In their battery of tests, the Lumia 800 did well in 3G talk time, achieving 8hr 25 min of its 1450 mAh battery, better that all the other phones in the test except the Samsung Galaxy Note which has a 2500 mAh battery, the Samsung Galaxy S II with a 1800 mAh battery and Samsung Wave 3, which is a bit closer to a dumb phone. The performance is likely due to Nokia’s expertise with radio technology.

Things go downhill from there though.

Video playback being about on par with the HTC Radar and out performed by many other performance. This could indicate that Microsoft is not taking advantage well enough of hardware acceleration on Windows Phone 7. gsmarena_002

Lastly, repeatedly loading a web page achieved only 4h 07 min of battery life, much less than the HTC Radar, which in fact had the best score in GSMArena’s collection. GSMArena suggests this may be due to the OLED screen draining the battery due to the white page.

Overall it is a mixed bag, but GSMArena did not reveal if the Lumia 800 had the latest firmware, and of course the Lumia 800 is due to have a further update which will make the whole 1450 mAh available, rather than the 1350 mAh which it is using now, which should improve the results further.

I would think you would want to discuss all Windows Phones in this review. The Lumia 800 did good job at 3G Talk time. The Samsung Focus S was a good performer for watching videos. And the HTC Radar was the BEST when viewing webpages. While no one WIndows Phones was best at all three things, it does show that if you are looking for a major use that you plan on using with your phone, one Windows Phone can be better than anyother for battery life when using it what that task.

Nokia Lumia’s second update in January is supposed to be the one that really improves the battery performance.

Not the best results, but really not bad. Not the horror, that some people mean, it was. They just had no other phone before to compare with the same functionality.

GSMarena is all About Android. Just read their news section, hardly anything about windows phones.

I have a Lumia and i love it and in standby the battery lasts for ages i have gmail on push wifi on etc and it will last about 3days sat on the side. BUT once i start using it the battery drops away quite fast an di have known to lose 10% of battery in 15 mins of game play. This isnt that tragic but its not great when my last phone a HD7 ran the same oftware with the same battery and used about half as muh juice when in use. This should not put you off though this phone is amazing that being said if i waited this long i would now wait for the 900 i wander how much it would cost to jump ship lol.
