High Nokia Lumia 920 interest crash MobiCity servers

Australian online retailer Mobicity received their first shipments of Nokia Lumia 920 handsets, and it seems interest in the new Windows Phone 8 handset was so high that they quickly sold out, and the device is now on back order.

In fact interest was so high that it affected their servers, as they tweeted on the 8th, saying

“Interest in the Nokia 920 is very high today. We’ve had to restart the servers so apologies if you’ve had any issues, please try again now.”

The handset is currently sold out on their site, though they are continuing to take orders for later delivery.  On the device page they wrote:

UPDATE 8th of November: Shipping has begun with our first batch going out yesterday. However due to high demand the quantity was not enough to fulfil all pre-orders. New stock is expected over the coming days although supply is highly constrained, so order now to reserve stock from our next allocation.

We will not know how well the handset is really doing until the market share numbers come in, but it is clear at the very least that there has been significant pent-up demand for the device. Lets hope the super phone delivers the much needed boost Windows Phone needs.
