HTC Brothers Fight: HD2 Vs Droid Incredible
Multimedia:
The multimedia experience for both devices is fairly similar but not too close.
The HD2 has all the standard software for watching videos, and if you’re lucky to have the T-mobile version, it comes with games and what not. The included Windows Media player supports WMV standard, and HTC’s own video player supports MP4 playback. Those two are pretty much covering most mobile videos, but in case they do not Windows Phone has a player called TCPMP video player that supports almost any video codec.
The phone comes with a demo for Ferrari GT, and Prince of Persia. Those two games allow you to play for 220 seconds, which usually is a pain but if you are smart enough you can take out the limit or just pay the price. The device also comes with Transformers one and two, which are perfectly converted and play as smooth as butter and look great on the 4.3 inch screen.
The music playback is also very well suited with HTC’s Sense UI music tab that supports mostly AAC or MP3 format and more. This music player is very sexy, simple, and fast thanks to the 1 GHz processor. The songs are loaded with album artwork (which can also be downloaded via the included software), Artist, Playlist, and more. If that music player does not do it for you, there are many other things out there in the Windows world to replace it. I use S2P rather than the standard WMPM or HTC’s music player.
The Incredible is not as lucky as the HD2; it does not come with any free movies or game demos. It was not sold as a multimedia power house, but rather a sleek and sexy Droid. This does not mean it does not support the good stuff.
The phone has a great Media Player that is also Sense based and supports all the standard media options. The media player also loads the Album art, Artist, and all the good information you might need.
Now for videos, even though it does not ship with free movies, you can add some to the SD card. This means you will have to pay or watch YouTube videos, but trust me, when you do, you will love it. The colors on the OLED display are well portrayed, and look very vibrant and just simple incredible.
At the end of the day the HD2 is more multimedia focus, but that does not mean the Incredible does not do well with multimedia situations.
Web browsing:
Using the web on a mobile device is very important to most smart phone users and let’s just says these devices are pretty equal in this category.
The Incredible has a great standard web browser, but I will be talking about Dolphin browser. This browser is very quick to load any page, and it loads just about all the content except video. The pinch to zoom on this device is very smooth, and it makes browsing pages a very enjoyable process.
The HD2 runs with Opera browser that as we know does not support videos but does just about the same thing as the Incredible. The only difference between the experiences on the HD2’s web browser is… It loads much slower, pages do not load fast, other than that the HD2 has a bigger screen so web browsing is much more immersive.
That is all the software I will talk about. Marketplace is not a fair fight, and I do not even use Windows Marketplace, so I cannot give you a good comparison.
Final:
Putting my views together, I will have to say these two devices are pretty evenly matched. They both have their strength and weaknesses, and me choosing which device is better is hard. I will say that if you have read the full comparison, you should be able to determine that on your own, but for me I cannot choose which device I like more and that is why I am always walking around with both. Giving the Incredible back is somewhat sad, but at least I had to chance to own it for 1 month and that month gave me all the experience I needed to write this 3000 word comparison, and so it was a month of learning.
Winner:
Availability- HD2
Hardware- HD2
Software-
Web browsing- Incredible
Multimedia- HD2
Marketplace-Incredible
System- Unknown,
I also want to add one thing that amazes me. The HD2 was released in November, but still manages to stand up to just about any competitor that comes at it, so it seems the device is a great success and is truly a great piece of hardware.
