HTCinside has leaked the product specs of a rather amazing new Windows Phone 7 Mango handset from HTC arriving this fall.

The device has a massive 4.7 inch WVGA screen, 1.5 Ghz processor, 8 megapixel camera for 720 p video recording, 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera, 16 GB storage and niceties like DLNA support.

All this in a package only 9.9 mm thick and still with a 1650 mAH battery.

We have heard about this handset before, in May, when the screen was said to be AMOLED rather than Super-LCD, but of course that is the kind of change one can really expect to occur.  The device was also said to have microHDMI out, another convenient and welcome feature.

What do our readers think? Real or fantasy? Let us know below.

About Surur

Site Admin and Windows Phone enthusiast, he has been using Windows Mobile devices since before they were called PocketPC’s. He is currently sporting a HTC 7 Trophy.

  • Aximtreo

I hope it’s true but I ain’t holding my breath. I just sold my Trophy and went back to the Droid X2 just for the larger screen.

    • Arvydasg 93

      You could get HD7 or HD7s :)

If they pack it with AMOLED screen, then i’l certainly buy it!! AMOLED will always be the far better option..

  • http://twitter.com/SirCatalyst Justin Vincible

That’s great and all, but sheesh HTC, where’s a US release of a GSM 7 Pro?!?! Or a new side-slider?!

  • Aceofspades25

It’s not too far fetched… I reckon it’s real. I hope they bring out phones with the same chipset but with reasonable screen sizes.

If it is real, it looks like HTC is not going to lie down and let Nokia walk all over them.

    • Pacific

I hope it is not real(specs). Nokia will walk all over them if this is real.

Its ok, not that impressed personally. Screen size could make it unwieldy and the storage as usual is skimped on. Nokia has nothing to worry about and will be getting my money but for htc lovers I guess this is good news.

    Wow! Same, tired HTC aesthetic….

      eXACTLY. Pathetic

    • http://fxfp.com/ Alex F.

And I bet it will have the usual HTC cheap plastic body.

    • the-hq

My thoughts too. Same run-off-the-mill HTC device. Looks just like all the other ones. Boring…

  • http://www.seriousinternets.com Tim Smith

4.7″ may be too big but I’d have to see for myself to be sure. One thing is certain. 16gb is sure as hell not enough. It’s an insult for anything below 32gb.

    • Anonymous

True, but Mango may bring support for external SD cards. It might be possible to bring it up to a nice 48Gb.

      • Norcal1079

I will not by a another phone without 4G. Two year contract would mean 2 more years of 3G. That’s stupid. Must have a min. of 32 GB and ideally expand to 48 GB. Hopefully Nokia will get it because it seems HTC doesn’t.

  • Vinnie

If it had an AMOLED screen, microSD, and a camera that wasn’t made by HTC it would be absolutely perfect. It seems to be only a bit wider than the Focus and a little over half an inch longer. Big, but not too huge. I want it… now.

  • http://twitter.com/b16bkostas Techtacy

nice 2mm only longer and fatter than HD7 thats is very small change for 0.4intch bigger.. and is thinker.. the problem is the small ram just 512.. now big rom included as flash and not sd card..

i will waiting for a phone with bigger mount of ram..

    • Anonymous

512 should be fine for this next year because microsoft does not let developers use very much memory in the apps. Probably a good thing in the big picture haha, devs love to be lazy and use brute force of hardware or at least I am known to do such things but they make you be very mindful of resources to conserve battery. Also because this uses the new processor/chipset it will be the faster memory now too as well as 4G possibilities.

Personally I am holding out for a Nokia phone because I am not a fan of the design but those specs are very nice!

  • Anonymous

I liked it until I saw the 512MB of RAM and only 16GB of memory. Up the memory and RAM HTC. Everything else looks great. Although 4.7 inches is too big in my opinion. 4″ is the sweet spot, and 4.3 inches is great as well. Anything over that for a phone is overkill.

  • Oshalabi9

Great specs with great selling points. Puts WP7 up to date with some of the top tier Droid handsets. A handset with great resale value and nothing to be ashamed about. I have a HTC Arrive which I love but wish the screen was bigger and a front facing camera. WOW! WP7 has come a long way. And with all these great apps being dropped, MS has blessed the homebrew crowd. its coming along nicely for us fans. Can’t wait.

Um… this doesn’t compare with even *current* top tier Droid handsets like the Evo 3D, which are all sporting 3rd generation Snapdragons and many with 4G.

Not to mention what will be in the pipeline for Android by the time this comes out.

I don’t understand why they can’t get top hardware for WP7. It’s the same devices they’re selling in 100K lots for Android!

      • Anonymous

WP7 doesn’t need multi-core processors, even though you’ll probably see some from other OEMs. WP7 on a single core 1GHz snapdragon is already a faster, smoother OS than Android on a more powerful phone.

        • Ryssfemma

Don’t get to carried away, sure the hardware is optimized for the software. But that doesnt mean Microsoft and the OEM’s has to slack, they need to think about that thirdparty-app multitasking is being implemented.

      • http://twitter.com/efjay01 Ef Jay

Simple. Microsoft certifies the components for a WP7 device to ensure optimum performance and avoid fragmentation, so far they have only certified up to 2nd gen Snapdragons which are not dual core AFAIK.

      • http://twitter.com/Summerclaw Hansel

Exactly, Microsoft has minimun requirements but that doesn’t mean you are forced to that. You are free to ram it up.

  • Anonymous

    HTC’s 8MP camera sucks.
Like the one on my Mozart, very bad puctures.

    I want Nokia cameras!!

  • Lulz

Might work, but will probably be expensive. Unlike those WP7 phones you can get for 200 euro or whatever on Ebay today. Also, I assume the camera will be crap unlike Nokia’s current and future lineup.

  • markiz

    4.7 i waaaaay to much.

  • ziya retci

it means adreno 205 is coming.

  • Pacific

For some reason I want to like this, speaking from HD7 owner here. BUT I am SOLD on Nokia, because I don’t want to be confused with android/windows phones with HTC(they are all alike). Plus the Carl Zeiss camera is the key factor, because I do like to take photos from my phone occasionally when I can’t use my DSLR camera.

Single core on an unreleased, 4.7 in. phone.

Lots of apps already have performance issues. Newer XBox Live games like Sonic are very choppy, IM+ is almost unusable, voice is becoming more important everyday.

The OS is fine with a single core, but 3rd party apps need power.

    • Matthewsj

Third party apps will run better after mango.

  • Matthewsj

If this has a qHD resolution then I’m all over it. 4.7″ is fine for me and will hold me from getting a tablet until the Windows 8 Slates arrive. Without the qHD res, however, I’ll be getting something from Nokia.

  • Volando

The same ugly HTC plastic devices…looks like every other boring HTC device. And the battery is way to small.

I’m waiting for Nokia…their devices are much cleaner, nice and hey they are not just black….i want a green or blue phone. With such a phone you can stand out of the same looking HTC Android and WP devices.

  • Anonymous

4.7″ at that same 800×480 resolution? this is such a joke

  • Danielm

The screen resolution is way too small for this size!! please MS accept another resolution like 1280×720!!

  • Anonymous

    It’s not Eternity,
    It’s call “real” HD7.

  • Anonymous

It looks like the HD2 was the pinnacle of HTC’s designs (which is what made HTC unique back in 2008-2009). Devices have gotten only uglier afterwards (maybe with the exception of 7 pro)
Rounded edges, thick chassis, and no more pushing the boundaries of screen tech. (like with Diamond and HD2)
And here we have WVGA on a 4.7 inch screen which is going to step in the realm of pixelation and still no AMOLED. The fact that it’s single core isn’t as much important as what it implies: This is the older generation snapdragon from Desire HD and Flyer with an Adreno 205 GPU. It’s considerably slower than Tegra 2 and Samsung Exynos and A5. So Windows Phone is going to be below the high-end bunch for at least one more year if this is going to be the ultimate Mango device. Not to mention no 1080p recording…
I know WP is faster and smoother than android even on a 2 year old snapdragon and I praise it for that. But games can always benefit from faster GPUs and this is currently a problem in WP.

    I wouldn’t call this a dream device, seriously, there’s nothing interesting, and that’s sad…

    • Anonymous

Indeed! You are very correct. I, couldn’t of said it better. HTC is so invested in Android, what they are doing is tossing WP7 into all the leftovers with a touch of so-called sprucing,It doesn’t matter be that HTC. Samsung,LG. I’m not buying another WP7 device until I see what Nokia brings to the table. I think for anyone who owns and likes this OS that waiting to see what Nokia brings in, before updating. I’m not that Impressed with my HTC HD7 volume is godawful. Though I will admit that as of right now I’ve hadn’t any technical issues with this device. I consider that a very big factor on the plus side. But it’s the only factor in there favor currently.

    • http://twitter.com/Summerclaw Hansel

Indeed, there’s nothing about this phone that I like.

Why doesn’t HTC revive their crazy premium devices from when they where an exclusive Microsoft partner? Phones like the Diamond, The pro, The Pure etc… They had great screens and unique design ( Love the sprinkles and squares ).

Or at least make new phones altogether. Different ones, Android is your bread and butter so why not take more of a risk with WP7? Come on HTC live a little.

I may have missed it, but all the talk about “wait for the Nokia, it will be awesome”, where are the specs, seems like Nokia hardware is vaporware at this point?

    • Anonymous

It’s too early. Phone won’t be out until Oct/Nov. Why announce specs THIS early? This IS a competition between OEM’s, you know?

  • Kimthran

Always the same boring design…. Pfff…..
HTC = less imagination + more plastic

Anyway 16GB storage is not enough. 32GB shall be minimum.
I will wait for the Nokia Sea Ray

I think I’ll keep my htc hd2 running wp7, really the best windows phone 7 (but not official) that I’ve ever tried since the launch of this OS.
Hey HTC you have realeased a “beast” for your last windows mobile 6.5 phone called HTC HD2, can you release a “beast” too for windows phone 7 ? thx. sad.

    * NO AMOLED
    * ADRENO 205
    * SINGLE Core
    * NOT 1080p
    * LCD with 800*480

This is a Joke.. Bring some high end phones to the WP department.

So, it doesn’t have 1GB or RAM, doesn’t have dual core, and doesn’t have a front facing camera. Go screw yourself HTC.
