HTC HD7 caught on video, sized up against Samsung Galaxy S

Engadget has been leaked some shots of the HTC HD7 from Germany, where the smartphone is set to hit the market in around 2 weeks.

The specs match what we released a few weeks ago, including of course the 4.3 inch screen, 5 megapixel camera with HD video recording and dolby mobile sound.

For good measure the smartphone has also been sized up against the Samsung Galaxy S, where the 4.3 inch screen clearly makes a difference.

omg, so nice :P , just have to sell my HD2
I don't care anymore that it has the same specs, I WANT WP7 OS!:)

  • GP007

*sigh*, the screen looks good size wise, the phone is nice in general, but come on, I need more storage ffs.

  • Diego!

It's headed towards Europe since it doesn't have the 3G bands for North, Latin and SouthAmerica.

Maybe when it launches here it will have more storage inside :)

  • efjay

8GeeBees!! Dolby for he 5 songs and half a video that puny storage will allow, brilliant!!

  • http://twitter.com/anaadoul @anaadoul

Did anyone notice bottom of the phone where the USB is located? It is an HD2!

  • gogogadgetme

The name of the phone is HTC Schubert? It's on a picture on engadget.

    So… I'm buying a new mobile phone…

I see he Desire HD and the HD7…

Both big screens with the same number of pixels.
    Both cool and shiney OSs

But one has a shiney microSD slot that I can stick a 32gb card in (or a 16gb class 6 card).
The other has a 8gb microSD card soldered in place. Not even sure what class of microSD card – could be small AND slow.

One has a 8mp camera with a grovey flash and auto focus.
The other has a 5mp camera that hopefully has a good flash and hopefully has autofocus.

One has an OS that people online say is good, the other has one that is untried.

So. Which phone do I buy?

It's a shame, the HD7 should be the flagship handset that sets the Windows Phone 7 world alight and makes everyone want one… instead, it's not as good as the android flagship model from the same manufacturer. Unless HTC plan on releasing the "HTC HD7 HD" later on… but by delaying its release they will harm WM7.

Not a great release on present form.

  • Brianna

    It's a codename.

  • http://twitter.com/mordawkubel @mordawkubel

That's exactly what I thought. I had the HD2 until I dropped it and shattered the screen. While it was a great phone, I don't really miss it, probably due to fact that the screen was too large for my liking. Judging from the video above, 4.3' might be a little too big for Microsoft's new os. Don't get my wrong, I'm still getting a WM7 phone the second it drops for T-Mobile, just not this one.

I thinh it is a great release on a present form..i want it….i prefer WP7

    1300mAh battery+8gigs of storage+enormous display+kickstand = no go for me

  • Saturnin

I year after the HD2, and such low specs !

Anyway, 8GB means I will not buy this SHIT.

I was hesitating with the Android Desire HD (up to 32GB). Storage is important to me. So it will be Android and no WP7 for me.

  • kangu

I think it's because you have small hands. It fits in my hand perfectly. Being spoiled with the 4.3in screen– it's hard for me to use an iPhone or anything smaller.

  • Pedro de la Riva

The specs of this phone are really crap:

    - Storage: only 8GB storage
    - Battery: only 1.300 mAh
    - Screen: no Amoled / no super LCD
    - Connectivity: no HDMI
    - Camera: 5MP only

    Simply pathetic.
But the 8GB storage is the cherry on the cake. It's an insult to all the customers.

    - Storage: only 8GB storage (I  don´t need more…i have a cloud service too)- Battery: only 1.300 mAh    (It is better than the 1230 mAh of an HTC Desire HD device )- Screen: no Amoled / no super LCD ( a TFT Display is good for too)- Connectivity: no HDMI (Dont need it)- Camera: 5MP only (dont need more)…
Very good for me..i want  it can´t wait….

  • slayr007

yeah um 8GBs can hold a 2000 songs or 24 hours of video, smart one. Research before you make yourself look like a complete idiot.

  • slayr007

It has autofocus and flash, as those are to of the h/w requirements of the OS. Sure it doesn't have an 8.0MP camera, but consider the amount of people who know of the HD series of phones, most think it's a great line of phones. Compared to the Desire series, which isn't even sold here in the states, running a pretty standard version of android. IMHO using the HD series for one of their first WP7 devices is a good idea. 5MP is pretty standard, and takes pretty good pix. giving people an updated HD2 is exactly what HTC is intending w/ this phone.

  • Chris

The screen is not too big for the OS, you will really like the OS and hardware. I played with one briefly at an event where HTC was present and the phone is awesome. I did a size and screen comparison with my HD2. I was not allowed to take pictures! I will get this phone as soon as it is available on T-Mobile USA.

  • http://twitter.com/AaronCT123 @AaronCT123

While I do agree that it was a misguided comment, 8GB still isn't very much considering this will be spread across songs, videos, pictures and apps.

  • p333cky

Skydrive is linked with WP7 25GB free storage unless you use a lot all the time and haven`t got a wifi signal to pull something off that you need. I was concerned at first until i looked further into it.

  • BChau

When it comes to camera pixels, let me just say that fewer is better in this case. Reason is because the CCD sensor is so tiny that more pixels means more noise to the picture. And then the lens is no where near what is required for the optical resolution. So higher pixel photo simply mean larger file size and nothing more.

  • Cirrob

Yeah umm you said that already and it still doesnt change the fact that its not a lot of storage ON the device. I dont want to upload and download my content everytime I want to access it. Just let me put it on the phone and pull it up INSTANTLY from the itnernal storage. The skydrive concept is cool for somethings but for most its like storing your groceries in a storage unit and everytime you want to cook dinner, you have to drive down to the unit grab the items you want then head home. If they wont let you ad external storage then they need to make the built in storage so insanely large its a non issue. 8 gb? Sheesh! Thats a drop in the bucket.

  • http://twitter.com/AaronCT123 @AaronCT123

There are other Windows Phones you know

  • mussab

Megapixel count isn't the only factor in the equation, neither the most important one.

  • efjay

Please sir, dont post such reasonable posts on the internet. Obviously some people live in a utopia where they are able to stream unlimited GeeBee's of data even in areas where there is no signal. So we who want to take OUR content with us on the device need to move, since even this paltry 8GB is not all accessible to the user, after the OS and OEM applications are installed we are left with under 7'GB, as has been shown in several screenshots. Add in applications, games and browsing history anyone who thinks 8GB is enough isnt really thinking this through.

Seriously, can someone PLEASE tell me where MS says you can place your music and video files on Skydrive and stream it to your WP7 device? The only Skydrive connection on WP7 that has been demoed is in the pictures hub where you have the option to save to Skydrive, no mention of any multimedia syncing. So many people are posting this Skydrive thing as fact but with nothing to back it up. Maybe because it isnt true?

  • lpaso

I thinked the purpose of HTC was the innovation… But… Where is it ? It has the same spec as the HD2 and even some specs are lower… Like someone said : it's an insult to the loyal customers if the phone is sold like it's described now. At least, there's a chance that, with a hardware approx. the same as the HD2, that we can have a WP7 rom for our HD2 :D

  • GP007

Skydrive is fine for some things, but if you have lots of videos and music like I tend to, then it'll just delay things. I'm getting more and more HD videos, movies depending on which res can be quite huge. I d/led a 720p 90min vid yesterday that was 4.3GB alone! And the 1080p version is around 10GB! How can I even take one or two HD vids with me if I don't have enough space?

  • dropqube

Why the fuck do you need to carry this on a mobile device in the first place? The screen can't even display the 1080p resolution.
