HTC HD7 specs leak with tiny picture, we have a better one

HTCHD7Schubert

Some specs of the HTC HD7 has leaked on German site HTCInside.de.

They note the device has a 4.3 inch WVGA screen with 16 million colours, is powered by the standard 1Ghz Snapdragon processor,  has a 5 megapixel camera with dual LED flash and HD video recording and unfortunately 8 GB storage, all of which we can confirm.

The spec sheet the information comes from however suggests the device sports a microSD slot.  The truth is however less rosy – 8GB storage in fact comes in the form of a non-removable microSD card, but this still holds hope that there may be a place for user upgrade.

Keep an eye on WMPoweruser.com and follow us on twitter.com/wmpoweruser for more on this device and other Windows phone 7 smartphones.

Thanks Chris for the tip.

8 GB Storage ?! Ha Ha.

    No, thanks.

  • http://twitter.com/anaadoul @anaadoul

If the HD7 is as we see, i will skip it. No capacitive buttons for me. I'm fine with the 8GB storage.

  • http://twitter.com/MistaWet @MistaWet

This has to be a lower storage version of the HD7. MS is probably follow Apples pricing plan and have different prices for different storage sizes.

  • Tony Monza

All the WP7 devices we have seen so far have a 8 GB storage.

    Why?

Indeed, on one hand Microsoft forbid a slot for external SD card and on the other hand all manufacturers seem unable to propose more than 8 GB storage (HTC, Dell, Samsung…)

For me that's a huge deal breaker. I am ready to renounce to Copy & Paste, even ready to renounce to multitasking. But no way I will go back to a 8 GB storage.

This is a question WmPowerUser shall investisgate.
Please WmPooweruser, do you have the answer ?

    • gullygod

This makes no sense — 8 GB of storage. 8GB is fine if this was simply a phone, but WP7 is not jut a phone because now they have integrated the zune service. At minimum the storage on all these phones should be 16GB , if OEMs are only going to bring one model (of the same phone) to the market.

  • Steve

http://www.htcinside.de has updated a German inventory screenshot which says: "microSD-Kartenslot bis 32 GB", in English: "card slot up to 32 GB"

    • Steve

      + "8 GB internal memory" !!!

      • RoguePlanetoid

I noticed that too, strange the screenshot has it but not the article – guess that's why it was overlooked.

        • Steve

So it could have 8 GB internal memory + up to (non-removable?) 32 GB microSD memory…

  • http://twitter.com/anaadoul @anaadoul

looking again at the photo, i have few questions.
    1) volume buttons are on the right side? this is so not HTC!
    2) Where is the front speaker?
    3) 5mp camera & Dual LED flash! What a coincidence, HD2 is the same!
    4) Total buttons on and arround the device is 7 "2 Vol, 1 Power, 3 Front & camera". On the HD2 we also have 7 "2 Vol, 1 Power, Back, Start, Home (Search?) & Call (Camera?).

So, are we going to get a ROM of this device soon? maybe the porting is easier than we thought :D

    • ElCondor

      1) What about the kickstand? The EVO has the buttons on the right side too.
      2) Probably the full stroke at the top is the front speaker

I just thought I'd let you know.

  • Funkyf

I just can't understand, why HTC is being so secretive, if the Device is another HD2, respectively Desire HD, at the end of the day.
Doesn't make sense to me, to raise the expectations like this.

8GB internally + MicroSD seems fine to me.

  • Jake

Well I hope your guess is right because 8GB is far too low. I don't know what MS were thinking when they made that the minimum requirement because it really is the weak link in the chain.

  • yoitsme

8gb+25gb cloud storage free = win

people need to understand MS gives you 25gb free cloud storage.

    • gullygod

25GB is GREAT! But if you are referring to Skydrive, no thanks. Skydrive is a joke. MS needs to make it more user friendly and manageable like MobileMe.

      • danny

Yuck. MobileMe is terrible and widely considered one of apple's worst offerings. As gigaom says, “those who know, don’t use MobileMe.” I couldn't believe that they were charging me for it – personally I hope MS sets the bar higher.

        • gullygod

YEs the service is terrible and a waste of money, but I was talk more about the UI deisgn. Have you ever used or seen the gallery (check it out @ http://gallery.me.com/banditob) looks or the easy of use that idisk has?

MS services are great, but they are all over the place and skydrive (althought a great service) needs to be implemented better.

    • efjay

And you need to understand that the cloud storage is only for syncing photos and OneNote, not music, applications, movies or anything else. 8GB is NOT enough!

    • Tony Monza

No, cloud is not for movies and music. And 8 GB storage is not enough. Just a joke.

    • Barney Stinson

you cant use the cloud storage when ur on a train or if ur with AT&T's incredible service :( …. plus thee are ppl without data plans who also cant use the cloud storage

  • Tony Monza

I am suite sure it's a fake. Look carefully the details. Especially the place where the speaker shall be, and also the side of the device.

To me this picture is the addition of 2 different pictures : the Trophy device we've already seen + the picture of a screen coming from another device and placed over it.

  • j2inet

I've got to agree with your thoughts on this. 8 gigabytes is the lowest amount of storage that a WP7 device can have. Such devices can be made with internal non-user accessible SD cards. I'm inclined to believe that we are seeing base model specs and the carrier can decide what capacities that they will sell.

    • Steve

I think 8 GB is internal memory. In addition there could be additional microSD memory,

      • j2inet

Unlike other phones the SD card is considered part of the internal storage. The Samsung Taylor (in developer's hands now) is implemented like this. If you get your hands on one you'll find that it's internal storage is a gig microSD card that is glued in place. You can forcibly remove the card but if you put another card in it the phone will not start until the original SD card is restored.

It's possible for a phone's internal storage to be a combination of integrated memory and what would essentially be a permanant SD card. But the internal configuration would be abstracted away from the user.

        • Tony Monza

They really have to solve this problem asap, cause obviously I won't pay for such a low amount of memory. No way.

Come on, we are in 2010.

    • efjay

I dont see this happening, only raises costs to manufacture lower storage devices that no one will want if there are higher capacity ones available. I think this is just the OEM's being cheap, and will use larger storage as a carrot for people to upgrade to another device later since they cant hold us hostage by witholding software updates anymore. So i guess its back to Xda and hoping they can get WP7 on the HD2, 'cos I sure as heck am not going to use a puny 8GB device! :@

      • Tony Monza

No, I think that they cannot do that. WP7 needs to succeed at launch.

And seriously, no one will seriously buy a 8 GB device. I won't.

Competitors like iPhones are proposed with standard 16 GB or 32 GB.

  • Tony Monza

    I hope you are right.
    Thanks.

  • Tony Monza

By the way, Congratulations WMPoweruser !!!!!!

You're the first one to announce almost all new HTC WP7 devices !

    Great job. Thanks :)

    • BLPD/LVBDLPD

      Don't forget me!!! ;)

      • Tony Monza

        Oh Yes, of course, sorry. Thanks a lot BLPD/LVBDLPD :) :) :)

  • Tartarus116

this can't be a wp7. the proximity sensor is missing.
i hope so much that the specs are fake

  • GP007

Sure they are, you just can't remove them. I think an OEM can use them instead of spending more on making 32GB of soldiered on chippery which ups the costs. The info could very well be valid, 8GB of "on-board" storage and 32GB in the form of a internal unremovible microSD card. System updates and system apps could default to the 8GB part while eveyrthing you add from Zune and the marketplace goes to the microSD?

    • efjay

The way this info is being presented is as though SD cards are available to the user to replace at will, that is incorrect. Whether an OEM can use them is irrelevant in this context, and it seems as if HTC has definitely chosen not to go this path. So this info as presented is incorrect.

  • Kangu

Soooooooo basically an HD2 with WP7…..i was looking forward to the HD7. Now if these specs hold true…no point in getting it =/ which makes me very sad.

  • wp7Guest

All WP7 devices will not have a removable SD card slot or a way to upgrade the SD card that may be in the device. It's been made clear since the platform launched that feature would not be included one way or the other, kind of in an effort to stop the pirating of Apps and create a close system they way Apple does.

Also all the pictures, sans the spec sheet/drawing from earlier today, all look really fake/fan made.

    • Alec Andrew

Yes, but the difference is that iPhone is proposed with either 16 GB or 32 GB storage.

Not a ridiculous 8 GB storage. AH AH.

      • wp7Guest

Yes, but the 8GB is a "minimum" requirement, the manufacturers can always go above that, and with how cheap Micro SD cards are, I'm surprised most of them don't include at minimum 16 GB storage. Also, most of these specs are being pulled out of people's asses right now, so lets wait and see, everyone knows that 8GB is minimum so the specs people are making up always will show 8GB to start and when the real numbers come out those people will say, "oh they must have made a last minute decision to upgrade the storage"

    music, movies, pics, games….etc

  • Eric

We focuse on these 8 GB because there is no external SD card, so we would be stuck with such a limited capacity. Even if you do not use it, the devices shall propose the maximum.
For instance I have about 3.000 mp3 and like to add from time to time a 600 Mb video on my storage card. Total it's about 16 GB.

Anyway, SD capacity has increased very rapidly in the recent years. 16 GB or 32 GB is now standard. Competitors such as Apple propose their devices with 16/32 GB storage. And WP7 shall be modern and competitive, right ?

8 GB storage is the limited capacity I had 3 years ago on my old Sony Ericsson k800i.

  • smoothcrooner

This really looks flaky to me, basically, I personally think it all fake.

For one, the recently anounced Desire HD has the new generation Qualcomm MSM8255 Snapdragon chipset, compared to this ones QSD8250, which is slightly older. The Desire HD also has an 8MP camera which is superior the 5MP on this one. If the HD7 is supposed to be HTC's premier WP7 phone, how come it has slightly inferior internals and specs to the Desire HD. Afterall, the HD7 should be a match for the Desire HD, the Desire HD being HTC's Andriod flagship phone and the HD7, being HTC's WP7 phone.

  • efjay

Which phone was this? The only phone which seems to have more than 8GB of storage is the LG E900, @16GB. Havent seen any other phones with more, I'm curious as to which demo phone you are referring.

  • Lokii

    8 GB… Should I laugh or should I cry? :(

  • Eric

I think the specs are obviously fake. HD3/HD7 is supposed to be a higher end device.

Never HTC would propose a 8 GB phone, when competitors (iPhone) propose regular 16 /32 GB storage.

  • John

If specifications are real, this phone is even worse than HTC HD2.

  • http://www.facebook.com/lundonc Lundon Clark

Agreed, IF these are infact real specs I'm not impressed. Don't get me wrong, it looks great.. BUT why spend another $600 or more to swap your HD2 for the HD7 when the only difference is an upgraded OS?? I was expecting (actually hoping) for something a little closer to next gen like maybe a 1.2Ghz or better snapdragon, 1GB ram, 16GB internal storage, 8MP cam (with front facing camera), AMOLED screen. Maybe it's asking a bit much but the HD line up is always known for being way ahead of the competition. C'mon HTC! You can do better than this!!

  • Belle Couille

It probably has 8MP cam and 16GB internal storage.

    It probably has.

Otherwise it would only be a bad joke.

  • BOBZIII

i dont believe these specs … i might aswell go get a htc hd2 ! the specs up there LOL is exactly the same as the hd2 that cant be true ! people were saying that this device was going to have a 1.5ghz processor but later on it was claimed that a 1.5ghz processor was set for next year ! so when i look at these specs i think .. htc hd2 was made about 10 months ago ? they improved nothing :| ? and plus no one would buy this (if the specs are correct) because the desire hd would make it look useless as it IS the fastest android phone out there
