HTC hinge nerds patent new clamshell design

HTC, well known for their innovative hinged smartphones, like the various tilting sliders, twist and flip HTC Universal and even the detachable keyboard on the HTC Advantage, have done it again, applying for a patent on a new clamshell design which will make for a pretty attractive device.

Claiming the advantage of the hinge being hidden from the outside and a fetching symmetrical appearance of the resulting handset, the hinge does bring to mind kitchen cabinets rather than smartphones.

Interestingly however the design implies both sides of the device should have the same thickness, something not really useful or necessary if one side is only for the screen. However if both sides had screens, it would make rather a lot of sense.

Guys, I've been coming to this site for years and love your focus on Android from a real power user's perspective. Why did you guys decide to focus on Windows Mobile all of a sudden? I realize that Android is seen as a dead platform to many, and that everyone is looking forward to the new version of Android announced last month, though i'm not completely sold on the command line interface on a phone versus a GUI. But to not only completely drop Android but to remove all Android content and replace it with Windows Mobile news is disheartening. I managed to topeka a few articles that you guys missed and read those, reminiscing of the good times when Android and Apple were practically the only names in the smartphone game.

I know it's hard times for us Windows Mobile fans out there, but if you're switching platforms, please at least have the courtesy to alert your fans.
