HTC Schubert – First high quality video of an HTC Windows Phone 7 device

With the leak of the Asus device a few days ago the run-up to the release of Windows Phone 7 hardware and the leakfest it implied has really started.  Now we have the first real high quality video of a HTC Windows Phone 7, the HTC Schubert, which according to 247windowsphone.com features an aluminium unibody design.

The device is looks pretty attractive and also features a dual LED flash, hopefully also indicating a high-resolution camera. Unfortunately it also looks very much like the old iPhone 3GS, but then a lot of people still prefer the design.

The HTC Schubert has been previously leaked to come to T-Mobile USA, finally breaking the AT&T streak recently.

See some screen caps after the break.

  • Mikkkybukky

wow, looks like the old iphone. but looks attractive

  • dropqube

ugghhh not my case, I hope Europe doesn't get this. I hate to say this but it really reminds me a little bit of the old iPhone like Mikky pointed out. I don't like metal framings, they always tend to look cheap and tacky after a while :(

Well let's see what else will be coming :)
There's still a lot of hope left, and not to forget Samsung will be there too :D

    • Ramon

"I hope Europe doesn't get this."
There's more than just YOU, you know? Maybe other europeans, like me, like this design and want this phone?

      • dropqube

Sorry it was more meant like "I hope this is not the only device Europe gets"
I prefer the choice between 2 or 3 different models :)

    • Sean Pine

      Agree with you.
This design is definitely disappointing. Similar to the iPhone, but the old one, the 3 Gs.
The back cover is not elegant at all, the metal framing gives it a very old-fashioned and cheap design.
Also, I do not want capacitive buttons. No feedback and they are too sensitive.

Hope HTC will have an alternative design. See how the iPhone 4 is good, or how the HTC HD2 was good.

I first thought the silver edge was painted plastic, just like the Touch Pro 2, that chips off almost immediately. I am glad it is aluminum.

I don't care give me something with QWERTY !!!! :)

Where are those diamond days… THAT was design art!

  • Northerngeek

I'm apprehensive about this, whilst it may be something I like in person, right now I am on the fence. It may come down to holding the phones in my hand on their release but what I really want is for MS to have a launch event to showcase the launch models (in fact I'd want it to be an annual thing, with new OS specs and models every 12-18 months); if there were such an event however they really need to invite the mainstream media to it to ensure coverage… I wantot see a WP7 device on a newspaper sometime… like the iProduct launches which are always front page news!

Oh my God, the design is really horrible. :(

It looks like the old iPhone 3GS or the old Touch Pro 2. :( ((((

I thought HTC has abandoned this old-fashioned curved design. So boring.

The design of the HD2 was perfect. But this one brings me to the past.

  • ParsaCalavera

it is desire with sort of facelifts!

  • Pedro de la Riva

Oh my God, the design is really horrible. :( Pl

  • Pedro de la Riva

And please NO CAPACITIVE HARDWARE BUTTON.

I hate the absence of feedback. I hate the fact that they are too sensitive and make you do a lot of mistakes.

  • Vinnie

I didn't notice the similarity to the iPhone 3G/S until reading it in the article, after that it was extremely obvious. It has the circle for the button and everything, which is not something we've ever seen from HTC before. Look at the very beginning of the video when it shows the device from a distance, it looks exactly like an iPhone. I think HTC and possibly Microsoft are doing this on purpose so that the following will happen:
Person: Whoa, Is that an iPhone?
Friend: No way it's my Windows Phone 7!
    Person: Wowee

    • Vinnie

Also wanted to add that the dimensions look exactly the same as the Touch Pro 2 so i'm assuming this is a 3.6" screen. 3.6" is fine for average users, aka iPhone users, but I think most of us here want a monster of a device. Hopefully that chrome edge around the side is not same plastic chrome on the edge as the TP2. You know, that one that scratches and chips so easily and will look like sh!t in no time.

  • Drewidian

Has anyone noticed that it looks like you can't take the back off to remove the battery? if it truly is a unibody design, looks like no battery replacement is possible and no microsd slot as well. I'll pass and wait to see what kind of slider device HTC comes up with. On another note looks like no dedicated HDMI out. So either it uses a dongle(I have a touch pro2 and had a 1 before) or won't have it at all.. too bad really…

  • efjay

Is this the best HTC can do?That is really disgusting, that back cover looks absolutely hideous. I guess everyone who has been crying for HTC can now see, they really arent going to try with WP7, after the HD2, Evo, this is what they produce? Dell Lightning or Samsung it is then.

    • efjay

And this is what T-Mobile is supposed to get? 3.5: Craptastic iphone clone??!!!!

  • Kimmy

Don't like the design at all. :(
    Ugly iPhone clone.

Please give us back the beautiful and elegant HTC devices !

  • Lennard

why the heck does the screen look so small? and why is the headphone jack on the top of the device? do I put my phone buttom first or top first in my pocket? this design doesn't apeal to me one bit…it looks…..cheap. whats up with all the chrome? whats up with all that scratchy metal? unibody? so how am I supposed to change the battery?

I think these people lost common sense. I think they turned into mindless followers of apple's designs. you'll soon see them do the antenna problem too. jeez.

    • h3man

since i have a mobile always bottom first caus you know the antenna ; )
i like the headphone jack at the top on the left side.

  • http://twitter.com/l3it3r @l3it3r

This is extremely disappointing. HTC has a lot of catching up to do with Apple's latest entry, and this isn't helping… a reinvented iPhone 3G design is not going to win any praise, and it just looks a bit thick too.

  • Whocares

These companies aren't going to tip their hands too early. You people are worrying for nothing. Better phones will come close to launch.

  • Fredrik72

I didn't like it at first, but after looking at the video a couple of times it isn't that similar to iPhone after all (except the aluminium bezel). Actually a good looking phone for business use, nice size that fits in the palm and not a 4.2" monsterphone. Maybe a bit too thick, but might have a large battery. I'm sure there will be much more models from HTC.

  • chinch

the phone looks great for mainstream customers. WP7 needs devices like this – along with a 4.3" superphone and slider/qwerty model – on ALL CARRIERS. If that happens it will – without a doubt – make significant inroads over the next few years as people renew contracts. It could also jump ahead of iPhone quickly as droid did (80% of iphone sales are to iphone users.. not a good trend).

  • Shawnzee

Any guesses on the screen size? I need a t-mobile phone so I can get 3g, but I cant go smaller than 4.3 after getting an hd, maybe 4.1, maybe.

  • Diego!

Hey, am I the only one who thinks this looks amazing? I'm loving it!

It's the lad of Nexius One and HTC Desire, congratulations for your baby! :)

To me the back looks great, I love that more than the front. What I think it's a pitty is that this phone has a 3.7" screen only. I wish HTC also released this in SouthAmerica, we never get to see these devices around here :(

Anyway, I like it, and if it were released here in Argentina, I'd buy it for sure :)

  • roblo

That is an Ugly phone. design something more in lines like the HTC Incredible or Samsung Captivate. Something sleek. This looks bulky. first glimpse of it, it looks like an iphone 3g. yes please lay off the chrome lining.

  • Bird

You talk about dual led, but it definitely looks like a Xenon flash, which would make this phone LEGEND* wait for it *DARY :)
