HTC Sense in WP7???

Engadget is reporting via Forbes that the Sense UI will appear on HTC’s Windows phone devices.

Drew Bamford, who heads HTC’s user experience design team, tells Forbes the manufacturer is applying Sense to its first Windows Phone 7 devices, which are expected to launch in October.

Later in the Forbes article, he clarifies that even though they are not allowed to modify the core experience like in the previous versions of the OS, they can still augment it with their special sauce. Among the ideas he envisions for the future of Sense include, easier discoverability and sharing of media, app recommendations to friends and better syncing and data streaming between the devices and the cloud.

As I read the article, I felt like banging my head on the table because WP7 already offers all the functions he mentioned out of the box! So out of curiosity, how do you guys think Sense will look like on WP7 and in what form (Hub, Live tile, dedicated app?) I myself think it is redundant and they should not even bother.

I don't think so, I expect a sense'ish hub though. That fits more inline with how you use Sense atm.

there is 1 thing i like about sense, the dialer. i can key in any part of the number and name to find the contact i want. i'm not sure this is a sense feature or winmo stock feature, but on android, without sense dialer just killing me…

The dialler is naturally like that in windows mobile, sense just wraps a pretty skin over it.

What I don't understand is that all WM phones had it, but then HTC's Android phones have it as well.

And from one demo I saw of the device, WP7 no longer seems to have it – although that's not confirmed.

I think we are at the point where we should simply wait and see, there has been so much speculation on this site that nobody really knows what win7 is going to be like at all. Personally the apps are more important to me, if we can finally see a wealth of good apps out for win7 it will work., if not it wont.

Definitely can see HTC having the animated weather tile, clock tile, and probably a twitter tile as well. The animated weather and clock tiles would be a great differentiator for HTC WP7 devices.

Don't you think it will be just as easy for the other OEMS to create similar apps? I think the Sense UI is fighting a losing battle in WP7.

@Booman, Yeah You are right.. Rush24 did not read it as carefully–

"Microsoft has taken firmer control of the core experience [in Windows Phone 7], but we can still innovate," says Bamford. The future version of Sense, he adds, won't look the way it does on current Windows Mobile (6.5) phones, where it basically replaces all the core applications and is fully integrated into the phone.

If you re-read the post, I never said they were going to replace the WP7 experience. They are just going to augment it with their own software via a hub or live tiles. I have never really liked the sense UI. I think it is too cluttered and slows down the phone therefore I will not be losing any sleep over it.

Don't believe anything you read in Forbes magazine about tech news. These publications are "regular people media" who most of the time don't have any idea what they're talking about, especially about a technology as "obscure" to the non-tech public as Windows Phone 7.

i cant stand htc sense. it used 2 lock my phone all the time. htc sense freezes ur phone. i never rebooted my phone after switching to windows default theme bcaz of freezing issues. htc sense sucks. it just slows down ur phone and kills other programs in memory. htc should focus on making good phone that has working volume button instead of focusing on software. the volume button (voice) is useless on my htc phone. i heard same complaint from my frnds too.
