HTC sponsoring Sports Illustrated competition

HTC is sponsoring a competition in which entrants can win a chance to cover a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit photo shoot and also attend the launch party for the 2011 edition in New York and Las Vegas.

HTC describes its so-called “Behind the tan lines” competition like this:

You will win more than the opportunity to see beautiful women in swimsuits (which is cool enough, right?). You will actually become an HTC correspondent covering the 2011 SI Swimsuit photo shoot. We’ll ask you to put an HTC smartphone to the test, using its amazing video, photographic and social networking capabilities to share the ultimate behind the scenes experience. And you will get the chance to reveal your unique perspective to millions of SI Swimsuit fans at www.si.com/behindthetanlines.

We’re looking for someone who is great in front of, but more importantly, great behind the camera, an active social networker who has a way with words. Someone who can offer a unique, firsthand perspective on the SI Swimsuit photo shoot, then share it with our readers like they’ve never seen it before.

Entrants need to create an up to 3 minute video or photo application created using their phone and tweet HTC the location of the media.

This whole thing has a faint whiff of sexism about it. Sure, I'd love to see the photoshoot, as I'm a guy. But what would a woman who wanted the money and the phone do? Look away during the photoshoot? Doesn't HTC have any female customers/fans? There's something a bit male-oriented about this that is very uncomfortable to me, and it's not something I would have thought HTC would get involved in.
