HTC Titan sold out on AT&T

It may have been a mistake to sell the HTC Titan for only 1c yesterday, as it seems the gigantic handset has proven so popular that it is now temporarily out of stock on AT&T.

The handset was already in short supply even before the promotion, and many users had difficulty taking advantage of the deal.

Hopefully Microsoft convinced AT&T to order a good supply, and the shortage is an indication of popularity and not just low stock.

Are any of our readers having difficulty getting their hands on an HTC Titan? Let us know below.

Bought mine on Tuesday ahead of the rush. Was told sale could be applied to my bill as a credit.

Anyone know of a conservative estimate for how much that might be? Hundred thousand maybe? More?

I know they won’t have many in stock but if you consider the Lumia 800 selling out in Europe there has to be a decent aggregate, surely. Even selling a few hundred thousand Windows Phones over the past weeks is more than Android tablets are selling just now, for example. Probably not the best comparison, considering how much they are tanking, but you see what I mean.

Local AT&T was sold out. They had me drive 30 miles to a other store at a mall. Was told a phone was set aside if I got there within an hour. Got there 45 minutes later and they were sold out. Went home and tried to order online but they kept trying to charge $300. Finally went back to the local store and had them order it for me. I was leaving town the next day (today) so I was willing to drive if I could get one that day before leaving for the week. Here’s hoping it arrives this week before I leave again next week.

Hopefully people weren’t ordering them to sell on Ebay. Even with the ETF you could still sell them for a profit. I do hope Windows Phone 7 takes off, there are certainly some great things about it. I had an international/unlocked HTC Titan for a few days and it was great except for the camera when used indoors. Hopefully they’ve either fixed it, or will have a software update for it soon. Otherwise, it was quick/responsive and had a nice bright screen.

With all these larger phones coming out I wonder why none of them have kickstands anymore. They’re really useful when watching video or just using the phone as a portable radio. I personally miss them. I didn’t think much of them before owning one (Thunderbolt) but now I love being able to prop it up whenver. The ones built-in to the cases don’t seem as well built.

What was wrong with your camera? Apart from some people calling it ‘mediocre’ this is the first I’ve heard of it having an issue.

HTC probably didn’t include the kickstand in order to sell you their cradle charger.

I had the chance to snag a couple yesterday before I left for a day-long drive. I didn’t: figured I’d do it when I reached my destination (didn’t want to deal with all of the account mods and re-thinking my plan). Oops! All gone! Well, there goes a couple hundred I would have saved.

What is sad that at 1 cent it’s amazing that the Focus S did not sell out as well since the Focus S and Titan are the higher end Windows Phones in the US. That said, if MS knew which it did that these phones were going to be on sales for a penny on Saturday. Common sense would have been for them to market this pricing along with their Xbox 360 commericals that are being plastered on G4TV and Spike channels in the US. Again, MS needs to fire their whole marketing department. When gadgets are SOLD OUT it makes them appear to be WANTED.

I ordered mine Friday thinking that was the only day they were doing to the sale since some phones had already dropped to the penny price. But the Titan’s price hadn’t been dropped yet, so I paid the $199.99 upgrade price. Then saw your Surur’s post yesterday morning for the price drop on all phones. After talking with 3 people at at&t they finally issued me a credit for 199.98. Phone should be here Monday. Can’t wait!

I just checked ATT.com from my account. It does not show the Titan as being out of stock but it does show the Focus S as being out of stock. I ordered the HTC Titan yesterday morning. Still shows processing order. Probably won’t ship out till Monday so hopefully I get it by Wednesday.

just checked again, the only phone my AT&T account shows out of stock is the Focus S. I have a premeire account so I don’t know if they have a different stash or not but it shows the Titan in stock. My Titan shipped out Saturday evening but didn’t get the notification until last night. It will be here Wed. afternoon or morning.

The moral of the story here LG, Dell, and Acer, is if you build a top of the line phone when everyone else is building mediocrity, people will buy it. Now go make a premium device with at least 32GB of storage and you too will have a winner(and bolster your flagging reputations). Cheers!

Picked up 3 titans early Sat a.m. Still says “shipping in progress” on ATT. Wish I could have switched my other two phones (large family) but mid contract and will have to wait. It’s dissapointing that the local ATT store reps knew nothing about the Titan or the sale, or at least that’s what they said. The ATT experience as a whole was bad. Microsoft needs to get the carriers to provide better staff training and they will find a huge market for Windows phones.

ps-not a fanboy either way. Our family has a dell p.c, Mac, kindle fire, blackberry, I-touch, I-phone. My wife got a Samsung Focus S and we loved it soo much we decided we would join her and get Titans..

Anyone able to upgrade from a WP7 generation 1 for a penny? I bought mine on launch day last year but it still says I have to wait until April before I’m eligible for any upgrade.

I was in a… less than technological place friday night, so I made special arrangements to be on the internet at 12:01 EST. I was able to pick up a Titan and now I’ve been refreshing the Fedex site watching it’s progress towards delivery! It’s only about 2 hours away from me at the moment lol. I don’t think I’ll get it till tomorrow though.
