IE 6 on 6 reviewed – too slow

GadgetMix has reviewed Internet Explorer 6 Mobile running on the HTC Touch Diamond, and while he praises the rendering quality there were still issues on some sites, however the main complaint was that IE6 was just much too slow to be usable, which is not far from the label already attached to Pocket IE.

While this news is disappointing the implications are not that far reaching, due to the availability of a number of other browsers on the Windows Mobile platform better optimized to the hardware. It does however reflect rather poorly on Microsoft. While they claimed IE6 Mobile will run better on future hardware, we know that they are developing on the HTC Touch Pro, which has the same processor as the Touch Diamond, so its unlikely that they themselves are experiencing better performance.

Personally I would wait until an official version is released to judge rather than going by the results from a cooked rom version. Just as some leaked builds of Opera Mobile are not as stable as others its possible PIE6 works better on an official rom, same as touch flo improved over time.

Gotta go with what efjay said. What’s the point of reviewing a leaking version in a cooked rom and saying the it’s slow?
Androind sucks on the Touch Diamond too…etc..

To a degreee I agree, but I must say the WM team does not have a good reputation regarding the speed of the interface of PIE.

Eg. the zoom out feature of the existing pocketIE is nearly useless due to speed, but they still released it. This indicated to me that thye just do not consider the speed of the interface at all.
