Infinity Blade was initially envisioned as a Kinect game

Infinity Blade, the highly touted, visually stunning 3D game for the iOS platform that has managed to rake up $1.6 million dollars in just five days, was initially conceived as a Kinect game. Speaking with gaming site Joystiq, Chair Entertainment cofounder Donald Mustard had this to say

We always have some cool ideas on deck, and kind of the inception of Infinity Blade began as a discussion around: ‘If we were going to make a Kinect title, what would we make? What would a Chair Kinect game look like?’," Mustard revealed. "That discussion happened, you know, a year and a half ago. We had this really cool design, and it’s not that dissimilar from the game you’re playing today; it’s just been refined and adapted to the iOS screen, which honestly I think is where the design works the best

Mr. Mustard reiterated that even though the Kinect controller sparked the idea, the iOS version is original to that platform and not a port from a Microsoft game. Luckily, he is open to bringing the game to the Xbox 360 console (and hopefully Windows Phone 7) if the Kinect controller takes off over the holiday season. I think the ball is on their court now with Microsoft’s motion controller projected to sell over 5 million units by years end. Would you guys like to see this game on Xbox live on the 360 console and WP7 devices?

Downloaded it recently and it is absolutely amazing on my iPhone4. The story is a bit lame but the gameplay and the visuals are superb. Would love to play it with Kinect!!

looks like a cool game. the funny thing is the only 2 platforms that can support this type of intense game is wp7 or iphone

android is out of discussion of winning the OS battle because of fragmentation

Gooed visuals but terrible gameplay. Just very boring and short after you have get used to the looks

unfortunately WP7 is currently not capable of such high graphics.

Well, it would need programmable shares, which means native code, which WP7 doesn't allow. And even if it did, the Adreno 200 GPU which is currently the only option in WP7 isn't quite powerful enough.

If the game was created using XNA (rather than Silverlight) the graphics would probably be better

If this was created with XNA, it would have taken 1/10 of the time to program, thus giving the development company more time to create other software, which means more $$$$$.

It's intended to be a showcase for the Unreal engine. It would NOT have taken 1/10th of the time to program on XNA. If Epic port the Unreal engine to WP7, with native code of course, I'm sure it will run just fine, and the porting of Unreal games (of which there are only two just now, but more are coming) will be straightforward.

It's a graphically stunning game, but as others have pointed out, quite shallow. It squanders all that beautiful realtime rendering on gameplay that would work almost as well if prerendered. However, it points the way towards where mobile gaming is going; it's graphically better than anything a first generation X box or Wii could produce.
