iPhone game ported to ZuneHD

In what is hopefully a sign of things to come, an iPhone word game has been ported to the ZuneHD in only 12 hours.

Foundation42 have ported their upcoming iPhone App called WordMonger to Zune HD. The app was developed using the Monotouch on the iPhone and was ported to the ZuneHD, which allows development using .Net and the ZuneHD extensions.

Unfortunately at present there is no route for developers to have their games published on the ZuneHD, but hopefully developments such as this will light a fire under the Zune team to make this possible.

Well obviously it'd be easier to port to the ZuneHD if you used MonoTouch (which is a way to basically use .NET-style code for the iPhone) to develop the original iPhone version. Very few developers do that, though, as native iPhone apps almost exclusively use Objective C and a variety of libraries whose functionality is missing even on the Zune HD (let alone Windows Mobile).

I didn't know you could install homebrew on zune hd. Thought it's like iphone, isn't it ? Can someone clarify it for me a bit ? thanks

Yes, there is an official home brew system, with an official sdk for both the Zune and Xbox 360. The problem is that the complied binaries can only be loaded by the development software itself, and is tied to the developer's machine.

That means the only way to distribute the software is via the source code, and only to other hobbyists who have the development environment.

You can, but it's long and grueling. Look up articles on how to add a game to a Zune.

does anyone notice the difference in colors? the iphone looks real washed out. MSFTshould release an SDK, but maybe they're waiting on a certain amount in userbase….

There is an SDK — the XNA Framework — but the problem is the lack of a distribution method. MS has specifically said it didn't create a full app store on Zune HD because it would conflict with its WM Marketplace efforts (which is sort of an odd move and marginalizes the Zune HD vs. the iPod Touch, as the latter has thousands of capabilities that the former lacks, via apps).
