iPhone theme gives a taste of Windows 8 on a smartphone

Windows Phone 8 will probably look like Windows Phone 7, with some additional UI tweaks such as folders, but we strongly believe it will have the same kernel as Windows 8.

The above video of an iPhone skin gives a bit of a taste of what full Windows 8 would look like on a phone, and to tell the truth, it does not look too bad, replacing vertical strolling with a lot of horizontal panning.

What do our readers think of this UI on a small screen? Let us know below.

Thanks Andrew for the tip.

Don’t like it! Phone version should be vertical scrolling and not panning. Either way the guys at Redmond will come with a better solution.

This is exactly what I fear.
The Metro UI is great. I find WP7 to be a very bad OS, full of limitations and missing so many features.
The only thing I like and that, in my opinion, “saves” windows phone is this famous Metro UI.

The problem is that the UI is probably the easiest thing to copy on any other OS.
So, what will remain to WP7 if the other OS have the same UI but more features?

       Exactly.

Tablet screen: larger than high -> Horizontal scrolling.
Phone screen: higher than large -> Vertical scrolling.

You need some space to scroll, otherwise you can scroll only by small amounts and it’ll quickly get frustrating.

Looking very good and the pivot control is exactly what we need in the homescreen.we  can customize it by choosing a position in the pivot diagram…And the look ist better.

I hope Windows Phone will make use of the Windows 8 pinch to zoom out behavior. Because allowing the user to have a more overview of what tiles are currently pinned, and also allows user to group tiles. But I think it will not be happening in the near future.

Excuse me? That is nothing like the metro experience. At best it’s a static copy of metro looks. It has no live tiles, no integration, is a mix of iphone ui and wp ui and doesn’t seem very intuitive.
So to answer kim, no, metro experience can’t be copied that easily by a launcher. It’s applications, push, live tiles, visualisations and os integration what make the metro experience great.

      This.

metro isn’t merely just big letters and tiles sadly. It’s a well crafted cognitive experience to enrich how a user interacts with a windows product. It’s quite interesting that there are so many knockoffs of it, and the majority of the knocks get it wrong.

or you could just get a Windows Phone and not be constrained to 3.5″ dreck.  I’m guessing that this might look even better on a Titan II.  thankfully we will have tablets that come with 8.

8 is going to dominate this year.

it ius interesting but i feel it takes away from the fluid iphone experience. have an iphone and a wp7 (or later, 8) phone and leave all the glitchy tweaking to the android fans out there who want a crappy OS to tweak and skin and modify rather than using a beautifully crafted smooth OS right out the box like wp7 or  iOS.

I do like the side scrolling.  I find the vertical scrolling can get difficult to track if you have too many pinned tiles.  I would even go for an option for vertical page scrolling.  But I lose track of my reference point when I scroll up and down too fast.  I wish there was a page scrolling feature, whether side or up and down scrolling.

Credible work/effort, although not particularly suited to an iPhone screen!

I useless launcher that changes nothing from the grid based iOS.

I may be in the minority but I don’t think this launcher looks too bad. It looks pretty good and has a great level of detail. With that said, it just makes me want a Win8 tablet even more and makes iOS look old, boring & dated.
