Is the Widcomm Bluetooth stack in the HTC Touch Pro2 causing problems

One of the surprises that greet new HTC Touch Pro 2 users when they first explore their phone is the very pretty and finger-friendly Widcomm Bluetooth stack.

While the task-based software is very easy to use it seems however it may be causing users some trouble due to incompatibility not present in the native Microsoft stack, and also complaints of general bugginess in the software.

My main problem has been with two piece of software, and its a shame because they are great. PhoneAlarm requires some tweaking to work (the developer is great and has fixed the issue for most people, others need just to edit a setting manually). Kinoma Play is the main one for me. They seem to feel the direction was for all phone to use MS Bluetooth on WM65 and beyond. and haven't been responsive to us users with the Widcomm stack. Its a shame too, because this phone and its variants will be a large part of the Winmo market share for the next year or so.

Widcomm stack is generally more functional and reliable than current MS offering.

But I expect HTC's decision to cause compatibility issues for the end users because most software developers don't bother to test their code against WIdcomm stack.

And bugs in MS BT stack are workarounded. I mean bugs llike one when you have only about 10 seconds to enter PIN code on WM device, or after using "socket" API to connect via BT and after entering PIN, MS BT Stack freaks out user with a message that pairing was not successfull but then works ok

It's been working fine on my TP2… except that the very nice MobileRemote application doesn't work with it. Really a bummer.

Also, my new HD2 seems to be using the same Widcomm stack, so that's a double bummer

Windows 7 couldn't find one of the drivers (Bluetooth Peripheral Device Driver) when I tried setting up an Activesync connention with my desktop pc. After a few minutes of forum trawling I came across a solution (http://www.sevenforums.com/drivers/3621-bluetooth… I followed the instructions in the post (4 posts down) & now all is working smoothly.

Working flawlessly here, a *lot* better then then the MS stack when combined with my BT carkit.

No problem at all, and seems quicker and stabler than MS stack. The only "problem" is i cant directly send files from resco explorer.

massive problems, will just refuse to start and even says, “widcomm bluetooth stack error” and not connecting. Have to reset the brand new TP2 to get it to work at all.

it is incompatible with the Stowaway keyboard drivers. While the keyboard works without it, you can not change the layout or the special keys, which makes non-US keyboards useless.

also Resco Explorer and Total Commander can not send files via bluetooth anymore.

It's better than the MS stack and generally works fine on my TP2.

That said, it does cause device lockups (pairing process freezes the phone entirely) once in a while, which is highly annoying but I guess par the course for WM.

My HTC touch pro2 won't work with my Pioneer in car sat nav/ phone kit. The phone freezes during the pairing process, doesn't mute av sources during calls, and doesn't bring up the phone info. box when dialling. After a call it doesn't disconnect. I have tried deleting the phone, reconnecting it, and after a load of trial and error it appers to work. However as soon as the bluetooth connection is lost it returns to the same problems. Just about to throw it in the bin! Any help please.

At least you guys getting some luck. My TP2 pairs perfectly but the connection lasts only 10-15 seconds then you have to pair it again with my factory Ford car kit. I have HTC touch diamond and it works fine in my car. I don't understand why the release the new phone which is as good as the Microsoft's Vista

I have the same experience. It's really annoying to have to use cable handsfree in my new Ford with the Bluetooth option just sitting there, not compatible with the HTC…
