Is this the Nokia 703?

At tipster sent us this picture, which appears to be the usual format for leaked carrier presentation sheets.

I have not yet gone all CSI on the text, but maybe some of our readers can discern the details.

Thanks to our anonymous tipster.

    Nokia Sea Ray??

    • rsgx

      Looks like it.

      • Anonymous

        Nope.

  • http://www.twitter.com/dotcarbon dotCARBON

Display: CB (Clear Black) 800×480 pixels, 3.* (7?) inches
    Camera: 5MP 2*** x **** pixels resolution, 720p 30fps
    Memory: 8GB, *** MB RAM

    • Anonymous

      512MB RAM.

Unfortunately, I lack photoshop to mess with the contrast and make it more readable.

      • Anonymous

Here is how this stacks up against the N9 specs wise. N9 specs:

        3.9″ AMOLED (Clear Back)
        8MP Camera
        16GB

So the N9 definitely has better specs. If this the Sea Ray? Is the Sea Ray using the N9 body but with lesser specs? If so, why? Thats a little bit confusing because people will want to compare the Sea Ray and N9 head to head.

Anyways the 703 means its not exactly high end so those specs are pretty good for mid to entry level high end.

I can’t wait to see what the 800 and 900 series, the truly high end phones, look like.

    • Anonymous

      Nice job!

Yep, pretty sure that says 3.7″. I believe it says 512 MB RAM. One more piece to the puzzle I guess :D

    • Anonymous

Also, and this might be a stretch but it looks like next to ‘GENERAL’ it says something like:

      25th/27th September/November

  • http://www.facebook.com/imperialdynamics Imperial Dynamics

If the Sea Ray is 703 then the yet unrevealed 800 will be higher-end!

  • http://twitter.com/IAmWP7 WindowsPhone7

3.7″ screen, 5 mp camera and 8 GB internal storage ( naked eye view ) :P

  • http://www.twitter.com/dotcarbon dotCARBON

Oh right, it says “November” under General.

  • Anonymous

“Is this fake? I don’t know, but I’ll post is anyway, screw integrity. btw, can you guys do the job for me?”

Yep, that’s internet journalism right there.

    • the-hq

whenever an article like this poses a question as headline I sometimes wish 100 people would just post replies like “Yes.” or “No.” and nothing else ;)

it looks like a N9, but with wp7..

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Milad-Bazzaz/100000479683479 Milad Bazzaz

    shitty specs….

    3.7 inch…meh
    512 MB RAM…meh
    5 mp camera…meh
    8 GB storage…unacceptable…

I would have expected this to be rather 6XX…because for 2011 those are some underwhelming specs…if that phone is going to be 300 something €, thats fine. If its going to be higher than 400€, its a fail waiting to happen.

    • http://www.facebook.com/kunwar91 Kunwar Preet Singh

i dont think it wud be more than 320 EURO coz it belongs to the same family as nokia 700 and nokia 701 .. n they both cost 270 n 290 EURO respectively

      • Anonymous

Not to mention, that 7xx is not even the high-end series… You can imagine things like this… 6xx and 7xx series are practically same as the previous X and C series.8xx series is going to be something like combinations of E and N series. 9xx series is going to be the ultimate high-end series consisting internet tablets and other speciality devices.

Nokia is probably going to send at least three different Windows Phones to the market when they launch. It’s important to fill 300€, 400€ and 500€ price points. However it would be more important for Nokia to develop a 100€-150€ (or cheaper) Windows Phone. I doubt they can do it if Microsoft forces them to use more expensive SOCs like the (Snapdragon) Qualcomms all Windows Phone devices currently use.

Fake or not, it looks delicious.

Storage is so f*****g cheap. Why do  they skimp and put in an 8GB chip which is the same physical size as a 32 or a 16? Dont they know that many people wont buy it because it has a paltry 8GB in this day and age???

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Milad-Bazzaz/100000479683479 Milad Bazzaz

if it doesn’t have an SD slot, most people will pass because of low storage.

      • http://twitter.com/efjay01 Ef Jay

It wont because WP7 doesnt support removable storage cards.

        • Anonymous

It does actually. You simply can’t remove them after you put them in without reseting the phone to factory settings.

      • Anonymous

low storage?  25gb skydrive is low storage?  Best of all…25gb skydrive is free!…just shut up!

        • Anonymous

Skydrive … really? Where do you live? The future? Who uses Skydrive to store anything and who can afford the data plan to pull data back and forth (and who has that coverage?). 8 GB may be ok on a mid range device but you will run into problems once you start storing map data for various GPS programs for instance. Just look at Ovi maps. Last time I checked, and before they add more complexity, the entire world is about 5.5 GB. Granted you don’t need the world, but the file size will grow considerably as mapping data is added. And you might want at least one navigation program and one program for hiking and whatnot.

          • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=5738101 Bakari Kamau

Most carriers force you onto an unlimited data plan when you buy a smart phone, so the answer is, EVERYONE can afford to move data back and forth between their phone.

Why are you storing map data on your phone instead of using an internet-based, integrated solution like BING?

Your problems with these specs are based in your refusal to revise the way you access information.

To the original poster, the reason why they “skimp” is:
            a) to charge a higher premium for bigger storage,
            b) to keep costs of manufacturing down,
            c) 80% of consumers don’t know/care,
            d) there are plenty of storage alternatives out there.

          • Anonymous

@Bakari…Not all carriers, at least in the US, offer unlimited data anymore, so with the limited data being offered, in the US, consumers will most likely take a more frugal approach to their data usage, or else they will be charged for overages.  Of course, those consumers who are grandfathered with unlimited data plans are in good shape.

To Fildelaren’s point….Ovi Maps (soon to be Nokia Maps) offer their users a service of free offline navigation – in other words, the maps are cached/stored so that you don’t have to use the internet.  This is most beneficial to Nokia’s demographic as they have users in practically every region of the world.

I have a N8, and it is fantastic that I do not have to use any of my data for navigation/GPS.

obviously you are always at home and using your WiFi. Get a job and a couple of friends and you realize how useful skydrive is, especially at areas with low connectivity.

      • the-hq

Fun fact: Most people out there (and you might as well assume that’s at least 80%) are completely NOT tech savvy and will not even know their phone can take a SD card

    • the-hq

Because it’s a 7xx series device which aims at lower priced markets. A lot of people don’t care about 8GB

  • http://www.facebook.com/aerosmillie David Smillie

It looks like it says AMOLED screen?

  • http://www.facebook.com/aerosmillie David Smillie

    5MP Camera :(
    8gb Memory :(
    3.7″ :(
    Clear black AMOLED WVGA :)

    • the-hq

Dude it’s a 7xx device. If you want higher specs wait for 8xx or 9xx

  • Anonymous

with the specs Fujitsu crammed into the IS12T, this seems to be just another base handset being rushed to the market. Not impressive and at a time when Nokia really needs to be bringing in some “wow”.

    • Anonymous

Like said hundreds of times it’s 7xx series phone.
Nokia needs to replace it’s whole mid, high end platform so if you are expecting only high end phones you are wrong.
Discussion has been about devices to be released Q4, not device by Nokia.

      • Anonymous

good point. I was under the impression that the 700 line was supposed to be top of the line until doing a little reading. Considering, this is decent spec for the level and hopefully the price is reflective.

  • http://twitter.com/darkhorse166 Norman Ma

Looks legit, and with the 7xx numbering and the stated specs, looks like one sweet mid-range device.

  • adam baker

it looks gorgeous for a lower end phone and these specs were to be expected on this level on phone i am particularily looking forward to their high end though :)

  • http://twitter.com/efjay01 Ef Jay

Low priced, free on contract phone. Has to be, unless Nokia are intent on going bust in record time.

  • http://twitter.com/cliftonjohnston Clifton Johnston

It looks nice. The rectangular front and profile will match WP7 perfectly. I just hope it has actual buttons

  • Anonymous

Looks convincing, but……the leaked video last month AND the one that S Elop had, both devices have an unlock button, volume rocker, and camera button on the device; this photo does not show an unlock button.  So……..Maybe two versions?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xMhSRyDSlWc
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oUEWT03Ebrg - Elop says 8MP with Carl Zeiss

    • http://www.facebook.com/todor.tsvetkov Todor Tsvetkov

Yep … no power button on the side … this is not SeaRay. But strange though … all Nokia devices have power button on the right side (think)

      • the-hq

I had several Nokia devices and none of them ever had their power on the side. wtf?

      • the-hq

      • Anonymous

@Todor Tsvetkov…I said unlock button (habit, since I have a N8), but in the video is does appear to be a power button :)

Perhaps the Nokia 703 is a Tango device, I don’t know; but it’s fun speculating!

I’m just excited to see something on the Nokia homefront; well, actually, I just want to see new devices period - It’s been almost a year!

    • Anonymous

The phone in those videos is a different phone. It has slightly curved edges, where the 703 is straight from top to bottom. I expect the 703 is a their low tier device and the searay will be higher teir.

  • Anonymous

not cool…LCD?? 5mp??? i expected better (great screen and great camera is all i want…possibly more storage)

    • Anonymous

I have no doubt this will be a low tier (low price) phone for the masses. Better speced phones are on the way I’m sure.

  • Anonymous

I love that font they use on 703. everything about nokia has a premium feel to it.

  • http://www.facebook.com/chuckwhit Chuck Whitaker

nice design…but i’ll pass my next WP7 will have to have much better specs than my Focus to warrant renewing my 2 year contract. cmon nokia show us the real deal and not mid range spec phones like almost every other manufacturer is doing -_-. its actually pretty sad that Japan first phone specs wise S*** on the US models

Looks like everyone is looking at specs. I don’t know how hard it is for an OEM to put 12M Camera instead of 5M, 32G storage instead of 16G. The deal is what market it is targeting. 703 is not 8XX, not 9XX, right? You look at the build, design, quality, that’s what stands out. If 12M is more advanced that 5M, the competition is too easy.

Obviously, this is NOT Nokia SeaRay. SeaRay has an 8 MP Carl Zeiss camera.

    Nokia 800 is probably SeaRay.

    • Endeavour 1934

But not as good as the camera in the N8. Sea Ray camera is like the Nokia E7 one.

If this is their low to mid range phone that is pretty nice looking! Mango runs smooth on everything I have used it on so those specs are plenty good to have a great experience as long as they use good components.

Why the world is trouble (financially), and everyone looks so rich? Answer: subsidizing. This makes everyone afford a highend phone. The trouble to me is, I can’t afford a data plan, I still want a smartphone, and I am OK with wifi.

Just thinking, if cable companies subsidize PCs for internet services, then everyone can afford the best PC. Certainly possible.

The phones could be all look the same but when they move up in number the internal specs change for example 8xx could have 16GB and the 9xx could have 32GB or even 64GB like the N9. I’ll be waiting Nokia are not stupid they know what they are doing and they want to compete against the iphone and this model would suit the lower end.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Milad-Bazzaz/100000479683479 Milad Bazzaz

“Nokia are not stupid”….oh well, if they weren’t then they wouldn’t be in this f’d up position. There is a reason their market share has plummeted into irrelevancy and their income is in the minus.

        Like WP7? :-)

  • http://twitter.com/samitermanini Sami Termanini

This looks exactly like the sea ray to me, well i guess I will be getting the higher end 9xx model of the sea ray look a likes.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=25800594 Simo El

Not much to add that hasn’t already been said. My guess is that the 703 is a mid-range option to be released concurrently with the 800 or SeaRay. This handset looks very slick, and I’d get it if it turns out to be the only Nokia WP7 option out at the time of release. November is such a long time to wait though :( . That would however fall in line with the thinking that Nokia’s WP7 range won’t be announced until Nokia World.

Call me crazy, but I’m still holding out faint hopes that maybe we get a WP7 announcement from Nokia at IFA in these next couple of days.

    • Anonymous

Doesn’t Nokia know my b-day is next week and my 2 year contract expires end of September? They really suck for making me wait till November at the earliest :-(

    fake

  • http://twitter.com/martinschmidler Martin Schmidler

I really don’t get why Microsoft hasn’t increased the minimum specs – 8GB non-expandable storage is so 2009… if at least OEMs produced versions with different storage sizes…they would realize customers actually want 16GB or 32GB I think.
