ISL Light – new Remote Desktop client for Windows Mobile

ISL Light is a new remote desktop client for Windows Mobile. Like Logmein the software is firewall friendly, features symmetrical AES 256 Bit end-to-end encryption, supports multiple languages, is fault-tolerant with automatic session reconnect and allows file transfer.

The software is enterprise class and therefore pretty expensive, at the cheapest $200 per year, so this is more for the CTO than the regular reader, but if that hat fits read more about the software here.

Outrageously Overpriced!!
What fool who knows anything about technology would throw away that kind of money when one can purchase a program called T2 Remote Touch for $9.99 with the following features:

* On Screen Display (OSD).
* Internet Browser Osd.
* Configurable Keyboard (Create your own Remote Keyboard !).
* Click Mode Osd.
* Scroll Mode Osd.
* Overview Mode Osd.
* Notification Bar.
* Improved Zoom Quality.
* Keyboard Preview.
* HW Keyboard Support (Updated 11.05.09)

It knows has an updated version now that has the following features:

+ Brand new rendering engine.
+ 256-bit Encryption.
+ Burst Mode.
+ Cool new Osd functionality.
+ Improved Browser Mode.
+ Important Bug Fixes.

The only thing lacking in T2 Remote Touch is support for multiple languages.

I'm tired of these roll-your-own-protocol solutions. RDP is tried and tested. it's strong on security, relatively easy on the firewall (assuming you can open port TCP 3389, which you can do if you are an admin), and with TS Gateway, you can even use web ports.

So it uses AES 256? Okay, but how do I know the keys are strong? How do I know it's not suseptible to man-in-the-middle attacks? How do I know this brand new remote desktop solution is decently secured at all?

A good mobile remote desktop solution should support the existing secure powerful protocols: RDP, VNC, SSH, etc. Making me deploy a new server side solution (and pay for it, to boot) to support my mobile clients is not going to entice me to buy.

P.S. Remote Desktop on Windows Mobile is crap. Even at WM 6.5, it still doesn't support TLS. As for WP7… what Remote Desktop?
