LG Optimus 7 also has gorilla glass, that makes 3

Strangely, it seems one of the under-publicized features of the current crop of Windows Phone 7 devices are the use of Corning’s super-tough Gorilla glass for the capacitive screen.

The video above by Microsoft reveals, I believe for the first time, that the LG E900, better known as the LG Optimus 7, comes with Gorilla Glass in situ also, making it the 3rd device, after the Dell Venue Pro and the Samsung Focus to use this very useful ruggedizing feature.

I actually dropped my phone last night onto concrete from a couple of meters up by accident.
It was perfectly fine. Plus because the Optimus7's top & bottom have a rubber-like material, it just bounced & was fine. Its a very well build device. The back came off, but there was no visible damage. (or damage of any kind)

the focus has gorilla glass?! i had no idea. What about the omnia 7 then?

That's what I'd like to know.

Seeing as the Galaxy S also has Gorilla Glass (http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/24/samsung-galaxy-s-sporting-gorilla-glass-to-protect-that-precious/), and all three use the same Super AMOLED screen, I wouldn't be surprised if it does.

Please let it be true!

I don't think the Omnia 7 has Gorilla Glass. I have 1, and there are some small scratches on it from regular use, which can't/shouldn't happen with Gorilla Glass.

I doubt the Focus has Gorilla Glass. My wife broke her screen on day two of owning the phone.cracked all the way across it.

I had my Venue Pro for about 8 days before it slipped out of my pocket and shattered like an iPhone. Luckily Dell got me a new one within 48 hours, but still.

I repair iPhones for a living, and the talk about corning's Gorilla Glass (also on the iPhone 4) is bunk. 24 inch drops to hard floors are enough to shatter the iphone. What helps out the focus is that the glass is floated in the case, not stressed within it. If the kinetic energy goes directly to the glass it snaps.

to put a cap on this, Apple commissioned (read: bought out) a company to treat the glass with similar chemical to that which Corning uses. That being said, Gorilla Glass does "save the day" but to a point. It still has the properties of glass, just a different propensity for breaking. Basically what this means is that it will survive a "rough" 4 foot drop where regular glass might break BUT @ 5 feet, it will fracture and cleave more than a screen not treated with the agent would.

The quantum has gorilla glass too. The iPhone 4 does not. That is only a rumor.

I dropped my LG optimus 7 last night when I got out of my truck, from like 3 feet off the ground, it landed on the glass face and shattered the entire glass.

I agree that the whole “Gorilla Glass” claim is a bunch of empty talk. The salesman who sold me my Samsung Focus assured me that I didn’t need any kind of screen protection – I sure wish I would NOT have listened to him! About 2 weeks after buying the phone, I dropped it as I took it out of my back pocket and I now have a spiderweb of cracks all across the screen. Thanks a lot, AT&T!
