Live Mesh Mobile client updated

The Live Mesh team has just announced an update for their Live Mesh Mobile client. Supposedly just a minor update, it did fix a significant problem I had in not being able to log in via the Samsung Omnia, so I do recommend it.

Service update (December 4, 2008)
We’re pleased to announce that our next update will be available later today. This update affects the Live Desktop, Live Mesh for Mac, and Live Mesh for Mobile. We will release an update for the Live Mesh for Windows software next week. See below for details.

Logging into m.mesh.com does not reveal any download links.

Then again, with my current mobile client, I am still presented with the message, “You are not allowed to add your mobile device at this time”.

Yeah I really don’t understand the “Mobile Client’. I can browse and download my files, but I can’t add my Dash to my my devices.

The app is still in closed beta, meaning not everyone has access to the cab yet.

Guess their still working out the kinks. Live mesh looked awesome on Windows mobile 7 in the Live mesh ad.

I can tell you how I am using it now, which is pretty cool (to me at least) I do on call work, and log my visits in a word document, which I use to generate a monthly invoice. Because I use so many smartphones for review purposes and switch between them, having the latest version of the document on the phone can be a problem.

With Live Mesh the solution is simple – have a specific folder to which all the phones and my laptop sync. Now whenever I record a change in the field, my laptop at home is automatically updated, and when I swap sims to another phone, that phone also gets an updated version of the file automatically.

Pretty slick I think, but it needs to be built into the OS.

This is quite unfortunate. I understand the rationale for a private beta, but the service is useless without phone sync. If I can’t get my foot in the door soon, I will most likely uninstall the desktop conduit (I already shut down Mesh on startup since I have another desktop sync tool) and will probably forget about Mesh altogether.

I hope Ozzie can really teach MS that with Mesh they are no longer building a traditional application (for which extended beta runs are the norm) but a -service- (for which private releases hurt the product). Without the mobile client, Mesh is no different than dozens of other (and better) sync conduits.

Any way to invite a brotha to the closed beta? I swear the WMPowerUser blog posts teasing me about new versions is killing me! I love onto m.mesh.com and shed a tear when I see now client…

I’m jonesing to do file sync with WM. Putting my work and home computers in the mesh has been fantastic! I now longer have to zip up OneNote files from work to home! My OneNote is the same everywhere! If I could sync up media files via the mesh with WM I would be in heaven! Heck, I won’t need to use PC based activesync anymore. Exchange activesync for Outlook and Mesh for files. This is absolutely a killer app…

What would be even more killer is a working remote desktop app via the Mesh on WM. Microsoft’s pretty much abandoned RD on WM (for whatever dumb reason) so as an admin, i’d love to be able to do quick things on servers in my mesh.

It’s a little odd that my coworker with a Palm OS based device can RD better than I can with WM.

I agree live mesh is pretty cool, and they need to get out of beta. Unfortunately the only reason I am in the beta is due to first come- first served. Hopefully yhey will expand availability soon.
