Market Intelligence Centre predicts Windows Phone will have 17% of the market next year

Taiwanese Market Intelligence Centre has joined IDC in predicting Windows Phone 7 will be very well next year.

Noting that HTC will be doing very well from Android this year, the institute predicts Windows Phone 7 will jump to 17% of the market next year.

This will be largely at the expense of RIM and Symbian, who Chang Chi, deputy head of MIC predicted will see sharp market share declines, eventually being ousted by HTC as the 4th biggest phone brand.

Overall he predicts next year, Android will have 40 percent of the market, followed by iOS’s 19 percent and Windows Phone 7′s 17 percent.

I predict a marketshare of 99% for WP 7 by 2013… and by then no one will even remember that I was wrong in 2011

This is garbage! Here is my prediction (again, sorry): WP7 will reach 10% without help from Nokia THIS YEAR. WP7 will have 30~50% before end of 2012. I don’t care about android, because it is a dead platform.

Here my prediction:

iPhone will slowly start to loose market share, Andriod will overtake and become number one, Windows Phone will become number 2 and iPhone will be number 3.

Andriod will slowly drop to second place and apple will stay third, and hey presto Windows Phone will be number one. When you say this will happen, after teh Tango / Apollo update for windows…. I bet you a free meal if I’m wrong

I’m rooting for MS, the underdog seems to building something promising. But I’m waiting for a Nokia device that offers 3G UMTS in more than the dual band.

This is the kind of information that salespeople at retail stores need to hear. People are sheep, and that’s part of the reason why Android is selling so well. When a salesperson says “Android is very popular. I sold 10 Android devices today.”, the devices sort of sell themselves. If the same salesperson says, “Windows Phone isn’t very popular right now, but its marketshare is growing and some predict it will be the 2nd most popular operating system in a few years”, it becomes a self-fullfilling prophecy.

I think this is quite possible. I’m sure everybody remembers what Android USED to be (not much). Things can change quickly, and I think it is popularity that will put WP7 ahead, though the OS itself being awesome will certainly help.

This analyst has Symbian’s share at 23% for the year, yet Symbian had just 24% share in the first quarter and is falling fast (iOS may pass them this quarter, certainly will b 3Q). The problem is he is counting on much of the 23% share of Symbian to be converted to WP7 in order to get his 17%, while the actual Symbian share will be lower. It’s also likely that the conversion of Symbian users to WP7 users will be slower than he thinks.
