Microsoftâ€™s Todd Brix has announced that Marketplace will open submissions for 6 new markets: China, Argentina, Indonesia, Malaysia, Peru and the Philippines.
The most important of these are likely China, that has recently become the largest market for apps after USA, at least for the iPhone App Store.
The markets are not however open for local residents yet â€“ Microsoft is trying to get the virtual shelves stocked before opening the doors, and will announce the availability later.
Of note is that developers who wish to submit to places like China, Malaysia or Indonesia will have to take special care to make sure not to offend local mores.
Offensive content can include but are not limited to:
- People in revealing clothing or in sexually suggestive poses
- Religious references
- Alcohol references
- Sexual or bathroom humour
- Simulated or actual gambling
Violating these rules could lead to an app being failed for certification, and the rules apply to all apps marked for Worldwide distribution also.
