Media Room client for Windows phone 7 confirmed

Microsoft has a Video On Demand system called Media Room which has 4 million users around the world, on AT&T with U-verse, BT with its Home Vision, On Deutsche Telecom and a few other places around the world.

Previously Microsoft has confirmed a Media Room client for Windows Mobile, which allowed users to stream video stored on their set top boxes.

In a VPAT (Voluntary Product Accessibility Template) document published on Microsoft’s accessibility website Microsoft confirmed the software, “Microsoft Mediaroom Client for Windows Phone 7 v 1.0“, will also be coming to their latest mobile OS.

The software will just be another example of the smartphone now being the centre of Microsoft’s cloud ecosystem, with Windows Phone 7 now being integrated with Bing, Windows Live, Xbox Live, Tellme and Zune service.

With a Youtube client now being strongly rumoured, as well as a Netflix and Slingbox client, it seems Windows Phone 7 users will not have to worry too much about streaming video on their phones.

I was thinking the same thing. If MSFT wants the easy transition from desktop to mobile they would take the "media center" this approach.

Hopefully they will enable windows media player internet streaming to wp7. Currently you can only do it with windows 7.

If I was able to stream my media from my desktop, then I wouldn't have to worry about the storage space on the phone. This would be a huge plus, and very much help my adoption of WP7 (Even though I am likely to adopt it anyway)

You may not need to worry about storage space on a WP7, since it will use skydrive as cloud storage. Hence, you can store all your images and videos on skydrive, then access them on your phone.

That's true. But I also have a lot of videos, and they are certainly not small. But that's an excellent consideration. Thanks for reminding me.

Well its true that skydrive gives you 25 free GBs but you cant exceed 50MB uploads, so videos wont work too great using this feature. However, its perfect for photos and music… im in the process of uploading my entire photo collection (15GBs) to skydrive, just so I can walk around with all my photos and wallpapers. The rest will be for future photos and docs.

Some type of "Play To" feature would be great, or Xbox 360 like streaming UI. Media Center app for remote controlling the desktop experience, as well as media playback is a must.

Hopefully you guys could provide some insight here. What I would desperately like to know and this article goes towards this is if we will be able to stream our Zune music from home to our WP7 device? This would be advantageous to Skydrive as there would be no need to upload and hence create a duplicate file. Furthermore, I'm sure some of us have more than 25GB of music and/or would not like to occupy all of Skydrive with music files. Make sense? Any thoughts? Much appreciated!

I figure we'll be able to stream Zune media over wifi when at home. Now if you're away from your home wifi and like at work, I dunno about doing it over the internet etc. We'll have to wait and see.
