Microsoft directly confirms Windows Mobile 7 for Mobile World Congress

Microsoft has been extremely cagy about Windows Mobile 7, preferring to always couch statements about it in vague terms such as their favourite, “the next generation of our mobile OS”.

Clearly no-one told Peter Klein, CFO of Microsoft that, as he came out and responded directly to a Windows Mobile 7 question in this Fox news interview.

Fox News: “Are we going to see Windows 7 Mobile come out in 2010?  What is your plans for that?”

Peter Klein: “We are heads down working on Windows Mobile 7  and we will have much more to say about that at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February.”

There we have it.  Let any speculation about whether Windows Mobile 7 will be discussed at Mobile World Congress end now.

Check the video at the 4 minute mark to hear this in person above.

  • It's on! You should add my idea to this post while you're at it Admin;) We may as well speculate from here.

I personally think that all the hub bub with HTC trying to kill all the "leaks" and the whole cloke and dagger from MS about Win7 and there Zune phone. that we may see even more then you would expect at WMC. I think they are trying to get a leg up on Apple and the only way to do it is to kill all outside hopes and dreams of the public and turn everyones ideas into nothing but speculation. This is the best way to make it seem like they are behind or completely out of sorts with what is going on with WM7. Personally I think that all the info foating around is out there cause it was put out there to give you something to talk about that is as far from the truth as possible.

That's probably right, the best thing MS can do is keep everyone guessing. The last thing you want is to start talking up something and building the hype yourself then underdelivering on it. If it's not everything people thought, then it's not really your fault because you never said what it'd be anyways. So playing it safe and building excitment at the same time is the best way to go.

I hope this is not the actual case :D

personally, I don't know about that theory, I mean look what happened to apple and their iMaxiPad. they didn't leak anything but people still speculated and got letdown major.

  • It's on like donkey kong. It would be pretty neat if they announce that the HD2 is getting WM7 during that conference.

  • I'm looking forward to MWC next month, how excuse while I go prep my kitchen for the onslaught of new builds that should be coming down the pipeline :D

sheesh, $4b+ in dividends in the last quarter!

I've been trying to temper my excitment for WMC and instead focus on Mix, but DAY-EM it's tough.

No. $4b+ in dividends plus buybacks. Most of it the latter.

Note that he didn't actually say yes to it coming out in 2010. Only that they're working on it.

  • Can't wait to use it on my HD2. :)

  • This bugs me…Thats Fox Businesss not Fox News… Its a totally different network…. if you can't get the network right, how can we assume that this post is right?
