Microsoft Discontinues Zune Hardware Line-up ?? Update: No

It seems Microsoft today pulled the plug from the Zune media player line up. Zune media players including Zune HD is now not listed for sale in Zune.net website. Though Zune didn’t splash the media player marketplace, they are really good at what they do. Zune HD is one of the finest piece of hardware released at its time. Even though Zune brand still stays in the form of services such as Zune Music pass, marketplace, etc, its sad to see the hardware going..

Microsoft is yet to confirm the news.

I think PMPs are on the way out so that doesn’t bother me that much, however every time I see a Zune HD, I cannot help but think that Microsoft should have produced their own windows phone based on that beautiful hardware.

Agreed. Imagine a “windows phone” MP3 player. It would basically be a windows phone without the phone part. The OS has alot of strengths, and a decent app store. That coupled with windows phone and windows 8 tablets would be great.

wrong market to enter. that’s the sole reason. MP3 player market is diminishing. Microsoft realized that after entering the market. That’s the only reason Zune didn’t succeed. It will be totally different story if MP3 player is still a growing market. In the past 30 years, I haven’t seen an example that Microsoft want a market, they couldn’t get it.

There could still be a Zune phone. Similar to the Google / Android Nexus premium phone that gets made by a different carrier each year. We’ve all said Microsoft needs a premiere phone that has all the latest and newest tech on it. I say make a Zune phone and work it just like the Nexus models.

I own a Zune HD 64, this is probably the best hardware I’ve experienced, for me Zune HD software is still better than Zune WP7′s. I would have loved to see more compromise from MS and continue improving Zune HD software.

Zune even though hands down it was better than itunes MS failed at marketing it. WP7 even though the OS is much better than iphone MS fails at Marketing tell me I’m wrong? see any mango adds yet? see any really big push for WP7.5? other than places who are dedicated to it?

I was in a T-MO store today replacing one of HD7 that burned out and the sales person noticed my tiles flipping and asked is that mango? yes can I see sure OMG that is so cool… yea it is isn’t it… you have one right there ever play with it? no.. why not… no answer it got handed back to me…the only one who is going to make this work is MS…add’s sales rep incentives push and push…the OEM’s wont do it.. but then MS is making more money off of android so why should they care… again tell me i’m wrong….
