Microsoft giving away free Windows Phones to virus-infected Android users with the best story

image25

Ben Rudolph, a Microsoft evangelist, has offered Android users stuck in the hell of malware and lack of updates a long cool drink by offering them a chance to win one of 5 Windows Phones if they tweet the best tale of woe regarding their experience with Android malware.

Example tweets so far include:

@BenThePCGuy Am furious with carriers installing carrier iq rootkit with no ability to turn it off. They do not respect the user. #droidrage

and

@BenThePCGuy #droidrage malware bricked phone &, I had to get a new Google store acct. The worst part is no idea what’s safe I need #wp 7.5

See more of the sorry tales at the Hashtag #DroidRage here.

All Fandroids, read the colorful real stories about Android experiences here… hehe…

Lol this is funny. Do u guys know the difference between a virus and malware. Do u know that more android devices r activated in 2 days than Nokia lumia sales and forecasts combined. This site talks more about android than wp7. That speaks volumes in itself. Over priced out of date hardware running a restricted limited locked down os 2 years behind android and ios.

    • Anonymous

Yeah?! Well, more WP7 have been sold to date in the first year of its release than Android did in its 1st year of release! So, imagine what’s coming!

great response, but is that true? If so goo times are head. I love my wp7 :)

        • Anonymous

Yes it is. Andy Lees (he became former President of Windows Phone group at Microsoft today) stated this in a conversation with Ina Fried at AsiaD. Read this link:

So how is 6 million more than 6.8 million. Clearly the reason Andy Lee was sacked sorry moved on was he cannot even do the most basic of maths.

          • rsgx

Where did you get the 6.8million and 6 million sales figures from? Are they facts, or estimates?

Because if the head of WP7 is saying they sold more than Android in comparison, why lie? If that comes out to be false, he’s going to look like an idiot.

Estimates. No one know the real figures, nor have they been released for either of the platforms. So, we can keep guessing.

          • Anonymous

So, you are going by Surur’s estimates which is based on Facebook users multiplied by a number vs. what Andy Lees, the president of Windows Phone division says?! Argue all you want, the fact is WP7 has actually done very well in its first year and things look optimistic for the new year (especially if Nokia can bring over its impressive work to the US)!

          • Anonymous

What part of Gartner do you not understand.  Why not try reading the link and engaging your brain before posting. As far as I am aware Andy Lee hasn’t produced any figures what so ever.

Android sales estimates and forecasts have been increased even during its first quarter. Yet all ready we are seeing wp7 projections being slashed. This tells us Android was always performing better than expected while wp7 is not performing as well as expected.

This is more likely why Andy Lee has been moved on.

Actually thats not true, its another myth regurgitated by wp fanbois. Android sold 6.8 million in its first year while wp7 sold 6 million. Only Surur could calculated 6.8 being less than 6 million. Then when you consider that the market was much larger in 2010 than in 2008 and that Android only had one handset available in limited regions and with limited operators. Also wp7 had a consumer base already and did not start from scratch. When you consider all of this it looks even worse for wp7.

        • rsgx

Consider that the market is much more competitive in 2010, so trying to get a new platform off the ground is much harder when there is more stiff competition.

Android’s only competitor was the iPhone back then.

          • Anonymous

You guys are just full of excuses. Microsoft did not start from scratch, there is a reason its called wp 7 because there was a wm 6.5 etc before that. Microsoft already had a user base. At one time they had 27% market share. Also Nokia had a large percentage of market share.

Also in this period of so called difficult competition Android gained over 20% market share and has continually grown upto 500,000 activations daily.  So that excuse is lame.

          • rsgx

WP7 is from scratch, it’s a brand new platform using a different kernel – built from the ground up. WM6.5 is exactly WHY WP7 is struggling – everyone who used WM6.5 think 7 is the same shitty platform.

Nokia still has a large percentage of marketshare in Europe.

WM6.5 and Symbian were hardly competition for Android, please be realistic.

          • Anonymous

Its nothing to do with competition its to do with brand awareness and an already existing loyal user base or fanboi base. Both Nokia and Microsoft had this. Infact Nokia and Microsoft made a big deal about it when they got together thinking it would allow them to tap into the massive Asian markets. The problem is they didn’t actually listen to the Nokia user base or understand why these people where using Symbian.

Android was a completely new brand who managed to tap into Microsoft’s wm user base in a way wp7 will never be able to do because of its locked down nature. Microsoft copied the Apple locked down model. Androids open model is a closer fit for the old wm user base. Wp7 is in direct competition with iOS more so than Android.

For all the finger pointed you guys do at Android you certainly can’t stand a bit finger pointing back.

I bet of lot of the stories will be bullshiat. People just want new phones or second phone.

  • rsgx

It’s not news that Android has viruses/malware on it. They followed the same archaic guidelines for the OS as MS did with WM6, etc. so they have the same problems.

    i bought a xperia,and at the next day…crash!

No they don’t I have a Samsung Galaxy W same processor as the Nokia Lumia for half the price. I have it around a month now and haven’t rebooted it once, turned it off or pulled the battery. I have yet to come across a piece of software I could not run smoothly, all this for £190.

Wm devices shipped generally without graphic drivers and pretty much needed rebooted or the battery pulled on a daily basis.  The real problem was Microsoft or HTC didn’t give a shit about its consumers until it lost all its market share.

    • rsgx

This is true, and that’s why they got burned. Android devices up until recently have also been slow and buggy for the most part – even the Dual core Atrix I saw. Unless you rooted your phone, which 90% of users won’t know how to do. It looks like ICS may fix that, we’ll see.

As of right now, nothing – not iOS and certainly not Android compares to the stability and smoothness of WP7 – it doesn’t matter if it doesn’t have a large market share or not. That is blatantly obvious – look at reviews from all the Apple evangelists and non-biased reviewers to see this is clear. They have no reason to favour the platform.
