Microsoft Japan makes new square Windows Phone 7 Logo official

The new square Windows Phone 7 Logo has been bubbling under for some time now, showing up in various presentations by Microsoft and also featuring in the current Mango boot-up screen.

Now Japanese Microsoft Windows Phone Evangalist Takahashi’s on his MSDN blog has confirmed that this will be the new logo for Windows Phone 7 going forward, for all builds above 7700.

Besides Red the logo is also available in Blue, Green and “Mango”.

The square logo certainly feels a lot more modern than the current round button. Do our readers agree? Let us know below.

I know it’s supposed to be more in key with the ‘Tiles of WP7, but i much prefer the round icon. It’s less dated looking IMO.

The new logo fits with the flat-colour tiled Metro style used throughout the phone’s UI. Ties it perfectly to the phone. The shaded, lit circle had nothing to do with the phone.

I prefer the old logo. But I could live with the new one if only it weren’t red. So if it’s available in other colors as well, Microsoft should offer an option to set the color for the bootup splashscreen.

Ditto. I think the new one looks more “tile-ly” than the old logo. Which suits more to the Metro UI of WP7.

that’s the logo on the current Mango build when it boots.
I really don’t care how the logo looks as long as they continue making the OS great.
I do prefer this one since it fits with the Metro theme but I have no problems with the old one either.

I’m fine with the new Logo, it would be nice if it boots in the color of your chosen theme, that aside, the new logo resembles the Big flat tile like look of the new Microsoft stores.

The round square is not necessarily more modern than the round one, the square is just more Metro and that’s it!
And I don’t really care much about it, there are many more important things to work on in the platform.

The square is a bit more consistent with the rest of the UI, but the round is a little more pleasing to the eye I think. Maybe I just need to see it in action…

Finally! The old roundal always made me think of Windows Mobile, the new one looks much better.
