Microsoft pushing a USB driver update for Windows Phone 7

Microsoft is pushing out a USB driver update for Windows Phone 7 handsets. At present we do not know what it does, but it would not be too fanciful to suggest it would help to improve the reliability of the upcoming Windows Phone 7 Mango update.

Windows Update discovered it just when I refreshed with the phone connected by usb.
Other than that, i don’t know as well what it does.

Just checked Windows Update, I haven’t got this. Perhaps I need to connect my Windows Phone to computer so that I can get the update?

You’re right. I checked updates in WU and nothing was there.

Then I connected my phone, checked phone updates in Zune (nothing appeared), checked updates in Windows update again and the USB update was available!

I am downloading two updates but they dont appear to be the update reffered to in the thread Maybe after they finished downloading (its .net framwork updates this update will appear!

Yes after I installed the .net framework updates I discovered this update as an optional update and it showed after installation device driver files (2) one windows phone 7 driver and a windows phone 7 usb device driver. Hopefully this is the pre mango update installation coming soon.

My HTC HD7 now shows up in device manager as a usb composite device, with “my phone name” as one device, and Windows Phone USB as another. Microsoft finaly going to let us use our phones as usb storage maybe?
