Microsoft re-doing the graphics system of Windows Phone?

DirectXMicrosoft has advertised for a Software Engineer/Program Manager to “play a key role in advancing the graphics platform that is at the heart of the acclaimed Windows Phone user experience”.

The manager would be responsible “to help drive development of the graphic APIs in the Windows Phone operating system, supporting the user experience and application platform needs of the next generation of Windows Phones”

Experience with the Windows graphics APIs is a requirement, providing some small support for the convergence of Windows and Windows Phone.

Windows Phone has been criticized for not having a powerful enough graphics subsystem to support high-end games, and hopefully this move will improve the situation in some way.

The Windows Phone User Experience Platform Graphics team is looking for a strong Senior Program Manager to help drive development of the graphic APIs in the Windows Phone operating system, supporting the user experience and application platform needs of the next generation of Windows Phones. If you have track record of being a super effective technical feature program manager, this an opportunity to join a top-notch product team and own critical Windows Phone graphics features through definition, detailed specification, feature crew implementation and stabilization.
Responsibilities for this position include collaborating both internally and externally to leverage graphics platform enhancements, contributing to the strategic development of the graphics platform, and designing graphics features and APIs. Creating schedules and managing technical risk to ensure graphic deliverables are available on time at the required quality level, will also be required.
Candidates considering applying for this role should have:
- BS or MS in EE or Computer Science
- Minimum of 5 years Program Management experience
- Experience designing, developing and shipping high quality technical features
- Proven ability to synthesize and communicate solutions to complex technical problems
- Great project management and cross-group collaboration skills
- Relentless drive for results
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Experience with at least one of the following is desirable: Windows graphics APIs, hardware organization, embedded software design and development
