Microsoft Releases Photosynth App For iOS Devices(Updated)

Microsoft today released its photosynth app for Apple’s iOS devices. A former Photosynth intern released iSynth, an iOS application that lets users view photosynths. Now Microsoft have released the official Photosynth application that not only lets you to view Synths but also allows you to create Photosynths on phone. Hope for Windows Phone version when ‘Mango’ update is delivered.

Description:

Photosynth – Interactive Panorama Capture and Sharing

Photosynth for iOS is the panorama creation and sharing app that lets you capture more of your world. Now you can capture 360° in all directions (up, down, left, and right) to create spectacular images. Using the latest in computer vision techniques, Photosynth makes it easy and fun to create and share interactive panoramas of wherever you are.

yeah definitely hoping for a WP7 version.

  • Drewidian

Ummmm… Helloooo… Over here…. Ummm… Microsoft could you please pay attention to your own supporters please?

Ok Ok I get it… wait for Mango, but come on!!!

  • dropqube

I'm always torn on news like this
On one side it's good Microsoft is bringing their services across more devices and improve their image among people and draw them towards Microsoft's services and perhaps make them switch to Microsoft products one day.
On the other hand the common user will connect the cool experience of a program with the iPhone and think it's the iPhone and Apple that does this "magic" – not a Microsoft app. It could also easily be a killer premium feature of upcoming WP7 updates – only restricted to WP devices.

    • Drewidian

I agree personally. I understand why MS does release products for the other platforms. They are just next month getting out of an anti-trust agreement with the US Department of Justice and are trying to pave the way to justify unifying experiences and capabilities on their own platform by saying that these services and functions also exist on other major platforms. Its the same thing they did with Office by publishing a version for IOS. By the way, that version will probably go away with Office 365 going into production. This way they can have remove the arguments for the next case if it works across a number of platforms.

  • HD7_owner

come on you guys. MS is testing the app with iOS and maybe Android, and will fine tune the app for Windows Phone 7 users.
Good thing came to those who waited.

  • ChaoCheeBye

Funny logic you have there…. Why must MS test on rival OSes and not on WP7 where MS can get the feedback too?

I do not see Google using WP7 to feedback for their Google maps?

    • http://www.facebook.com/patrickvand Patrick Van

MS developers know where the real money is at, and its not on WP7 its still on iOS. There is no real excuse for MS dev working on apps for iOS

      • Chinonso

Then why is it a free app

    • Chinonso

Because no app can access the raw camera, until the API is released, so chill it's coming with the mango update until then.

      • Andrew

As if Microsoft can't access the camera… lol

    • zzz

Google is definitely using Windows as main test platform for pretty much everything they develop including Google Maps. According to the logic of some people here, shouldn't they be testing and releasing it for Chrome OS instead???

      • tjarren

Agreed. Microsoft IS bigger than the insecurities of some WP7 owners.

I know that won't win me any popularity contests here, but it's true …

  • WP7User

Woo! All the good apps coming to iOS first. I'm selling this WP7 garbage and getting an iPhone. Thanks Microsoft!

  • Julien

    This is ridiculous
If the app was not for free, I could understand but WTF?
Some big shot at MS needs to set a clear rule with NO exception : Free stuff MUST come to WP7 first, no matter what.

  • danny

I understood the Bing app since that's it own business but this is getting crazy. Photosynth is just cool, not a business! They should have saved this as a wp7 camera feature. They need gee whiz demo apps on wp7 but seem determined to keep giving them away to other platforms.

  • Roc

Microsoft shall rather improve their own services for their own customers. I am fed up being stuck with this garbage Bing Map not working in my country. I really feel like fucked.

    MS develop for other platforms.
But on the contrary, where is Google Maps for WP7?

  • guestz0r

    From the Bing Blog:

"The Photosynth app is coming next to a Windows Phone near you."

  • http://www.wmpoweruser.com jrjohnson1701

I sincerely hope that they will release and integrate Photosynth and Image composite editor on the WP7 platform. It makes no sense to continue releasing amazing versions of their products for the competition and leave their own OS out to dry. Bing anyone?

  • Just Visiting

I really don't see an issue with Microsoft using iphone users as beta testers for some of these apps….It's apparent that the app will be optimized and released on Windows Phone – The BEST version of these apps is what Windows Phone users deserve and will get, AFTER the beta testing!

  • Geo Boe

Is there a legacy iPhone app for iPhone 3G still available?

  • http://twitter.com/purevibz @purevibz

It said it at the end of the video that coming next to windows phone.

  • http://twitter.com/EJ1024 @EJ1024

You guys have to understand this is a business,,, msft doing this is not by accident, by doing this msft is trying to be visible to the IOS world that's all they they are doing here.they make money competing with the app store devs.
MSFT doesnt want to be the no.1 competition of its own app devs…. Think think think.if msft will continue to provide us users with the best apps no one out there will develop apps to the marketplace anymore??????

    • grenz242

That is a truly retarded comment. Perhaps they should have just released WP7 without ANY functionality and let the devs make money from building the OS from scratch? Think of all the cool stuff MS could have done for iPhone and Android instead, building mindshare among users of those platforms.

  • Ken

What's wrong with MS? Supporting your opposition first? At the very least, release the dang thing at the same time on your OWN platform!!!! Geez, this kind of blunder would have never happened with Bill Gates the helm. They pay soo much $$$ to the management of MS and all the do is one Strategic failure after another?

  • MikeB

    Well done Microsoft.
I really like the OS, but its getting harder each day.
Teamviewer – not on WP7. Well done..
RDC – not on WP7. Well done..
Photosynth – not on WP7. Well done..

If the next iPhone has a bigger screen i maybe would change my phone to the unliked iPhone.
It has a bad UI, a lot of disadvantages, but Microsoft tries everything to kick their old supporters in the ass.
But theres no doubt: my HTC HD7 is my last phone with Windows on it.
