Microsoft Windows Phone ads finally show speed, UI, challenges other phones

We have been begging Microsoft to show some more of the features and user interface which makes us like Windows phone 7 so much in its commercials, and it seems from this ad uploaded on Vimeo by photographer Jamal Farley that they are finally doing just that.

In the ad Microsoft challenges other phone operating systems to complete tasks faster than on a Windows Phone, a dangerous angle of attack, but one which will likely garner a lot of attention if run widely.

What do our readers think of the ad? Let us know below.

I personally have loved their current angle of attack, and I can totally attest to their "less stop and stare, more glance and go" mantra. When I was a bachelor, my Tilt was a great time-waster. Now that I'm married with two jobs and a baby on the way, the Tilt had become nothing more than a phone; I didn't have the time to mess with getting GPS to work, getting media onto the phone, much less surf the internet. Now I've got my Focus and I'm back to smartphoning, because it no longer requires me to unplug from life for several minutes to accomplish a simple task.

That said, this is just one more step in the right direction. Humor was a great first step (the "really?" commercial was great, as was the moving sidewalk), but this will probably bring the point home. Good ad.

Congratulations on the baby =D. personally i thought this ad was fantastic, i can imagine people actually trying this out after watching the ads and thinking to themselves, hey wp7 is actually quite awesome.

Sadly, I had to time this on my Galaxy S. Yeah, I can do it faster.

    • schultzycom

But from the stock apps that are on the Galaxy S?

    • wp7telefonai

Well, that guy wasnt doing it very fast. Android looses in speed

    • bugbog

So, from pulling the phone out of your pocket, snapping the picture, then uploading it to facebook you can do it faster on your Galaxy S?!!

      Only if you customize it!

I like their moxie, but I think it's a bit early in the game to be that bold. The obvious response from Android, Apple, et. al., would focus on the limited feature set of the current implementation of Windows Phone. It's easy to be good at something when you're a one-trick pony.

  • lediur

Seems the ad was a bit slow with the actions. I could do this faster on my HD7.

  • Charles Friend

This is old… Not really commercial. This is only one of several interactive challenge but I can't find that page anymore.

  • talksavvy

i like it but this isnt new its one of the internet ads from 2 months ago….i still think they ought to put on tv though

  • KCMatt

I got this as an ad on wmpoweruser further down the home page! But big FAIL, click "take the challenge" and what is supposed to be shown in a wider format is displayed in the square, so I couldn't even see what the windows phone was doing on the left! Ha!

    • Stephen McAteer

LOL, i guess the sites editors couldn't find it on their own site, seeing as how there are sooo many ads here… must have been lost in the clutter :)

  • man1up

With updates, CDMA support coming in March- take the gloves off and go to work on Android, tired of hearing Tegra 2 b.s. :D

  • mike

sorry…. i won the photo challange with my mytouch 4g by a second. dedicated camera button ftw!!!

  • sab0tage

Great ad, the workplace punctuality seminar bit cracked me up. If only the company I worked for would let mobiles use the exchange server, they really need to eject the blackberries.

I currently have a work around to get my exchange calendar on my phone, I setup a gmail account, use the Google calendar connector to send my outlook appointments to gmail and then only sync the calendar. It works pretty well.

Get the guy who makes the Geico ads. He'll come up with some ideas.

  • djguapo

I'm sorry, but it doesn't count as "finally" unless it's on TV.

  • pinguino1

G R E A T A D!!! First time ever I see MS proyecting emotions and feelings to cause an impression in the consumer.

No mgpix, No mhz, No stupid cold data just a rush!! he he I see the other fanboys testing their phones. Who cares the result. The consumer already have the impression.

This is marketing my friend!! benefits before features, emotions before logic. NOW ON TV PLEASE!

  • General

That's what i'm talking about. these should be widely advertised.

  • http://twitter.com/jimmyfal @jimmyfal

yeah put it on tv for christs sake, wtf they are so failing on advertising this thing man.

This ad would be genious if it were on TV. They can totally have a short commerical announcing to challenge the viewers current phone. Let another advertiser do a commercial so the person has time to get ready, then a random challenge. People would so do it after they let the first one go by. Get viewers to interact and that is killer advertisment.
