Microsoft wins Verizon Live Search deal

After a tussle with Google it seems Microsoft has succeeded in winning over Verizon’s mobile search business. According to Verizon Chief Executive Ivan Seidenberg Microsoft Live Search will be preinstalled as the default search engine on Verizon mobile phones.

The deal, which will apparently be announced during Steve Ballmer’s speech at CES later today, will be worth $1 billion to Verizon over 5 years, with between $550 to $650 million guaranteed, twice what Google offered.

As part of the agreement Verizon is apparently also set to release more Windows mobile phones on their network.

Live Search is widely recognized as better than Google’s much better known competing offering, so this is likely a win for all concerned (except Google of course).

Live search is really worse than Google Search, that’s why they need to spend that much money to have people actually using it.

Yes – Live Search (for windows mobile) is widely accepted as being better than Google Search (for windows mobile). It’s actually the #1 most awesome application (IMHO) on smartphones after obviously email and browsing.
