Motorola distancing itself from Android, considering Windows Phone again

Microsoft: Just so you know. With us, it’s never off the table.
Motorola: (After Microsoft left) Damn it, it’s never off the table!

The on-again, off again relationship between Microsoft and Motorola took another twist with Motorola’s boss Sanjay Jha making the surprise statement that the company was looking for diversity in its smartphone portfolio.

"I’m open to it," Mr. Jha said. "I think I need diversity in our portfolio."

The “it” Jha was talking about is releasing new devices using Microsoft’s new Windows Phone 7 series OS.

This is quite a divergence from a statement made by a Motorola spokesperson at Mobile World Congress which reads:

"We value our long-standing relationship with Microsoft across Motorola and look forward to their next generation of Windows Mobile platform software for potential integration on future mobile devices. As we have continued to focus our investment on differentiated end-user experiences, that investment at this point remains largely focused on Android."

Motorola pointedly did not appear on the list of Microsoft partners releasing Windows Phone 7 products.

So, with Motorola and Microsoft on a break, will they eventually live happily ever after? Let us know your opinion below.

of course Motorola will create WP7 devices… and until then it's largely focused on Android. LOL this is news? Windows Phone 7 is looking great as a consumer device and the experience of WP7 frankly makes it's Motoblur look silly and childish.

Too much drama is created by bloggers not comprehending HARDWARE makers need to continuously sell steady stream of phones. Motorola correctly put it's eggs in the Verizon Driod basket xmas 2009 as it had little hope to make a dent in stopgap WM6.5 devices. Any manufacturer not creating Windows Phone 7 devices will be leaving money on the table (if not handing it to it's competition).

Hahaha smart move motorola. you finally realiaze google android is such a piece of crap. just like apple ijunkphone. so what change your mind is it because of new windows phone 7? i laugh at all the apple ffanboys are mad & jealous of the new windows phone 7 awesome so up to. date UI looks. it beats android and apple ijunkphone ugly icons which looks so out to date. i cant wait when windows phone 7 is number 1 and microsoft did excellent design of windows phone 7. i am so glad i never went for android, droid or apple ijunkphone. these phones are just all hypes and no show. just like our idiot democrat president obama which stands for (one big ass mistake america) LOL… windows phone are the. best. lets all say BYE BYE Apple Ijunkphone and Android.

I just want to say reading this info is 100% true and thank goodness it will not have this so junky android on motorola phones. it is so useless and glad windows phone will be build in. i love what i saw on windows phone 7 it for sure going to work great for my personal and business use. all you android lovers grow up and figure it out that windows phones are best and works well and is not so restricted like android and the other useless iphone. so yes great news android is going to be obsolete. or like arnold will say you been terminated. hahahaha… windows phone 7 you have my next order for a new phone.

@tim Looking at these videos shows Windows Phones are so advance in mobile technology. Yes for sure say bye bye piece of junk android and can't wait to get Windows Phone 7. I am glad I never gotten an Android has they are just an App phone is all it can do. Google should stick to there web browser search instead. I just hate seeing those ugly UI icons… Android is just another hype like the iphone is all hype but no show.
