New and cool Samsung Focus ad claim thousands of apps

As ads go, the above one for one of the strongest Windows Phone 7 handsets, the Samsung Focus, is actually pretty good, and of course makes the important claim of being able to offer thousands of apps.  Maybe that 100 free app increase is worth it after all…

Thanks Mark and Brian for the tip.

    awesome ad!

    • GP007

      +1

We need more ads like this! And ont he app note, we're a a week away from hitting 9,000!

    • Matt

The best part about this ad is that it shows how much better apps look on Windows Phone than on Android. The top apps in the marketplace really are eye appealing compared to other platforms.

Too bad the Samsung Focus isn't available on more carriers because at the end of the day Galaxy S is everywhere and Samsung Focus/Omnia 7 are not.

  • Anheledir

Maybe you should make videos available for us poor Windows Phone 7 users, too. :-/

    • firetap

I assumed I've been missing something obvious on how I can't watch the videos on a Windows Phone blogging site on my Windows Phone!

Nice ad though, and a good one can really make an impact. Just from the original "Really?!" one, when I showed people I had a WP7, people would make the link and say that they've seen the advert.

I can see the video fine. Do you have the Microsoft YouTube app installed?

        • http://www.facebook.com/nizzon Johan Nilsson

I have both YouTube and RealTube installed, still doesnt work.

          • mattias

            Youtube installed, but no video..
            Omnia7

          • Koyce

the only way it will work is only if you change your region to united state. mine works Omnia 7 UK

          • mattias

Thanks, you are right! Strange though… Why does a regional format setting block access to certain internet videos? I have everything else set to english(US)…

        • firetap

Yeah, but all I see is a blank space. Can't click on it or anything. But if you can see them, that's odd. Maybe I need a YouTube app reinstall. I am using the mobile site, but I'm sure I've tried the full site on my phone and it's just the same. Can't check now, no 3G in work, and it would take weeks to load all the advert spam of the full page just on 2G!

    cool ad!!! hehe… :P

  • Lennard

pretty cool ad. but I don't understand why it's always ATT as if they're the only ones sellings windows phones

    • Brian

I'd imagine it's partly an AT&T add. Half of Microsoft's marketing fund for wp7 is for assisting carriers in their wp7 marketing campaigns.

    • efjay

Its only at&t doing ad's because they are the only US carrier remotely interested in making WP7 a success, t-mobile is an android house and have no interest in WP7 at all. I expect to see the same lack of support from Verizon, if they even bother to launch a device in the first place.

    • Just Visiting

Since ATT was the 'Premier' launch partner for WP7 devices, I believe that they agreed to share in the marketing for the WP7 devices on the ATT network. It seems as though they feature the Focus in the ads (moreso than the HTC and LG devices) which, along with the great looks of the Focus, no doubt has contributed the outstanding sales of the device.

  • Anthony S.

Technically, they DO have thousands of apps… even if that number is only around 8,000.

    • GP007

8,744 or so as of right now. Should hit 9k sometime next week. MS should have a big party when the marketplace passes RIM's in the future.

  • Chris

Now these are the kind of ads that should of started months ago, well done. I really hope only a fraction of that $300m ad budget has been spent so far, they need to push more of these style ads in the coming months.

  • bch

Definitely should have had these kind of ads on the whole time. This is the stye of ad that made the Blackjack series so popular. It's a no-brainer.

  • Brian

    Now that's a nice add.

Just in response to the jab againt the 100 free app limit there.. As a WP7 developer myself I found the 5 app limit quite irksome, and I'll tell you why. It may be hard to beleive, but I and I'm sure lots of other developers out there for WP7, iPhone and Android alike like the idea of being able to create free apps to put on the marketplace that won't make any money, but also aren't crap. If I have an idea for an ap that fills a small niche in peoples lives, that many people probably wouldn't be willing to shell out a dollar for, but very well might use if it's free. And If i can get that done to a high quality standard in just a weekend or so, and if there's litterally millions of people who might potentially use that app, then that's the kinda app I might very well want to write. The idea that I can only write 5 of those before having to pay microsoft for the privilage of them hosting it for me makes me hesitant about what free apps I really want to make. People have pointed out to me that windows phone marketplace currently has the lowest number of free apps compared to iPhone and Android, and although it's not all about the app count or the free app count, that is something that many people will remember when they hear it.

  • jabtano

There yea go this what WP7 needs adds like this, both MS and OEM's need to start getting off there ass's and start to push this. that is all the OS needs is one really big push. that and this update.

  • kiarash

Perrrrrrrrrrrrrrrfect Ad! I mean MS and others should go for these kinds of Ads! Astonishingly beautiful and informative! Perfect! Perrrrrrrrrrrrfect! :D

  • Northerngeek

Great ad, now do one which tells people you can have unlimited songs each month for $14.99/£9 for up to three devices… watch the families start lining up.

The product's great, knowledge about it… not so much.

  • Carl

Oh God yes! This is EXACTLY the kind of advertising they should be doing! Exactly what they *should* have been doing since day one.

  • blkballoon925

I saw this on TV last night and was really impressed.

  • Mamacita42

    Cool!

  • Just Visiting

Booyah! Showed a lot of good 'relevant' features, apps, and the kicker: Orange, Blue, and Green tiles! (to shut up the naysayers who always criticize and joke about the blue tiles that we always see). More of these types of ads, the upcoming updates, and Nokia devices…I definitely see an increase in sales.

    • Just Visiting

One more thing: I like how they kinda sorta incorporated the WP7 'side swip' effect at :22-:24.

  • charlie

saw this in a bar last night. only ad that caught my attention simply because the colors pulled me in… i couldnt even hear

  • charlie

saw this in a noisy bar last night…. i could not even hear it… but the colors pulled me in. great ad!

  • braheem

Best ad so far, but i would've liked to see some mention of the zune and zune pass. It's arguably the best music software, it looks really cool, and it's one of the best features of WP7. But, it's definitely a step in the right direction, and all ads after this should be done this well. Maybe they'll show it in another ad.

  • Roblo

This is what I'm talking about, awesome Ad!

  • jimski

While I acknowledge that the Focus is a good looking and very popular device, it's only available on one U.S. carrier. Some users are tied to their current carrier for a variety of reasons. To expand the platform Microsoft needs to show HTC some love, regardless of how people may feel about the OEM. It's all about increasing sales, right.

  • http://twitter.com/WinPhoneJunkies @WinPhoneJunkies

Thank you ATT! AWESOME AD GUYS! BRAVOOOOO!!!!

  • sean

Saw this in a bar last night, people really seemed to pay attention to this one; much better in showing the stylishness of the interface. Definitely need to show how sweet the Zune hub is in action. They could have an entire series of 30 sec spots just highlighting a main hub and its implementation of social or search integration. Definitely a step towards a better marketing direction.

  • djguapo

FINALLY! A good ad, for TV!

  • Manu Narayan

This is by far the best WP7 I've seen. Very flashy, vibrant, and shows off some key differentiation points for the platform versus everyone else. The 'hub' concept hasn't been really shown off in an add before and it is one of those things that everyone I show my phone to loves.

  • Microsoft

i love when the interface of "splits" into the phone at the end, showing that the interface isnt bound by the screen…

and i love the graphics of the commercials, showing how bright super amoled can be with those colors

    love the ad

  • http://twitter.com/EJ1024 @EJ1024

I will never buy HTC product after this ad,,,,,
TMOBILE still nothing from them, I dont know why the fuck they won't advertised hd7, they are so anti wp7, oh well tmobile is know for this anyways, correct me if I'm wrong, the only thing they advertised is sidekick mt4g, they won't stop talking shit about att and the iphone4, I'm pissed

  • http://twitter.com/EJ1024 @EJ1024

    sOrry for my language

  • Matt

Now they just need to get the Samsung Focus/Omnia 7 on more carriers like the Galaxy S.

Ugh I really want to ditch my iPhone 3 and get one of these. I hope the Office Apps are user friendly, but even if not, anything would be an upgrade from my glitchy iPhone. Ah, and I love that song in the background, Sleigh Bells are awesome (which also makes me hope that iTunes runs smoothly on this phone).
