Nokia 610 passes through certification … in Indonesia

Rumours of the low-powered Nokia Windows phone running Tango are growing stronger, and today we have evidence that the handset is at the very least real.

The device has just passed through certification in Indonesia’s testing centers on the 10th February and supports 3G, WIFI, Bluetooth, I think ruling out anything but a smartphone.

If the handset is really a Tango device it may very well be designed to be consumed exactly in emerging markets like Indonesia, where the Nokia brand is very strong.

We should hear and see a lot more about the device at MWC 2012 soon.

So I went to Nokia’s Indonesia site and what did I see but big and bold the 710/800….so if people are going to sit around and say Tango phones won’t be available in Mango markets and vice versa they are either gullible or liars. SO expect to hear a lot of complaining out of Indonesia about not getting full Marketplace access and complaints about watered down devices. Huge failure on Microsoft’s part.

Errr, there is a demand for high-end phones anywhere in the world – they are not going to kill that cash cow just to make Tango users feel better.

Yes but every rumor blog and their uncle said that Tango devices would be the sole choice in 3rd world countries and there would never be an issue of mixing and matches different class devices. This electronic caste system is disgusting.

yeah and then there are confused users…then pissed off users because they weren’t aware how crippled the el cheapo phones would be compared to the full Windows Phone Experience.

Microsoft has done this through the years with their Desktop OS (XP Home vs Pro) Vista Home Vs Home Prem, 7 Home Prem vs Ultimate……it is all very off putting.

People need to know what they are getting into when buying a phone like that. Its necessarily to reach those markets, but Microsoft and carriers will definitely need to get the word out. That said, you kind of expect a watered down device when you pay these prices for a new phone. You think people buy an iPhone 3GS (which probably costs more than a Tango device on contract) and get upset when it runs most of the apps like crap?

3GS is a poor example. apps run comparable to a 4 cause most apps aren’t optimized to run on 4S.

Microsoft can’t even get the carrier story set straight with Mango, how do you think they will get carriers to inform users that Tango phones are crippled.

Nokia and Microsoft fail to recognize that users in these countries are willing to get a device that functions as a phone and a PC replacement. They are willing to spend more and a fully functional Mango phone will fill that gap.

true. i’ve been using mozart for a few months with a US live ID, can get xbox titles though can’t buy. now that i make an Indonesia live ID for my lumia, I can’t even Try angry birds nor hot pursuit!
lets wait till the lumia launch. if by then the marketplace still not fully open, there’ll be lots of complaining to Nokia and Microsoft.

Hopefully, Nokia just name it Nokia 610 to make in NOT part of the Lumia series.

Nokia Lumia series should be limited to the full feature Windows Phones.

Nope, Lumia refers specifically to the WP7 Nokia phones. Just like Asha is the lineup of most recent S40 feature phones. Nokia makes plenty of non-WP7 phones you know?

Besides, you already have the Lumia 710, so Lumia 610 = lower number/cheaper/less spec’ed phone.
